How to Save Money at Ramsey Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They charged originally over $800 for our two cats to have a wellness check. They also charge $25 per cat to get a nail trim, even though we trim our own cat’s nails. Then they said “well we tell you ahead of time to trim them”, which they did not. Had they have told us, we would’ve done it ourselves. Also charged for a mandatory stool sample even though our other Vet did not do this unless there is an issue.Tried to charge for leukemia shots which aren’t needed for strictly indoor cats. Doctor is also not very personable. Update: Received a call from the Vet tech about this review. She was rude and dismissive. Instead of rectifying anything, and to learn what they could have done better, she accuses me of putting false information and states they actually offered us the option to refuse any service, which both me and my partner know is not true. She also called our cat “vicious”. Very unprofessional. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Words can’t explain how grateful I am to have met Dr. Bishnoi. Victoria, Raj and him have been nothing but exceptional wonderful people. Pharaoh my kitty is also very pleased with the care and love he received!

My partner’s review was deleted!!!!!! Original bill $830 for two cat’s wellness check. Vet tech called my partner to complain about the review she left this place and we had her on speaker phone. She was so unprofessional and telling complete lies!!! Literally told my significant other that she told me our cats don’t need stool samples, which isn’t true at all! Charged $25 for nail trim and told us they said to trim the nails before coming which they did not!!! Most practices would have seen a poor review and called to apologize for a poor experience, not harass us AND DELETE IT!!!! Also called our cat vicious which he is not at all!! Will never go back and will never recommend anyone to bring any pet here.

I made a 9am appointment over a week ago and yesterday, the day before the appt, they called and asked if I could do a later appt. I told them no as it would have interfered with my getting to work on time. I arrived this morning at 8:45 and walked in the door at exactly 9. There was no one there. The door was unlocked, but there was absolutely no one in the building. I waited a few minutes and called the office’s number and the call was rerouted to the vet, who said he was in traffic and would be there in 10 minutes. At 9:20 the receptionist walked in, and at 9:30 the vet arrived. I couldn’t wait any longer and when I got up to leave the vet actually argued with me and claimed this was why they had tried to move the appt. Except I had clearly stated I couldn’t do a later appointment! They tried to reschedule and I let them know I would be visiting a different animal hospital in the future. They had such good reviews that I was excited to go here, but the level of unprofessionalism was such that I would never try again.

Ramsey Animal Clinic handled Enzo’s case urgently, super professionally, and with grace. My 9 year old coonhound was bit by an unleashed Huskie in Midland Park and I rushed him here for care immediately. This team handled his surgery on a Saturday for emergency care and did ALL they could to put my nerves at ease. Enzo is currently on antibiotics, anti inflammatory pills, and vitamins for a swift recovery.
