How to Save Money at Oradell Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had a really wonderful experience here, and I’m so grateful for all their help. I see the reviews are mixed and I will say it was expensive: but for fast, emergency care, knowledgeable staff, and quality prescriptions, my guinea pig, Crumb, is back to his perfect, healthy self. I called at 6pm on a Sunday night when his runny nose inconveniently emerged. I had called 7 other places already because I live an hour away in NY. I was so relived when i was referred to them, and they were available throughout the night. Crumb is feeling better, he did great taking his medicine, and my other guinea pig never got sick! 🐹 ♥️

Horrible experience, do not bring your pet here please. Last Friday we arrived at the hospital at 9am. Our dog couldn’t walk move her legs at all, within 30mins of being there our dog was shoved in the back possibly in a cage and a bill was shoved in our face. The vet had no conclusion as to what was wrong with the dog , she gave us 3 possibilities. 1 - bone damage - 2 nerve damage 3 - cancerous tumor .. the Vet told us the dog has to stay for 2-3 days and that a specialist would see here that same day and MRI done next morning if needed. The bill as explained by the Vet was for what may or may not be needed and it was for $4,600 to possibly $14,000 with the minimum deposit being $4,600. My mother apply for their credit options and was denied, after hours of being there she was able leave a $2,600 cash deposit. They accepted the deposit, and we were told we can leave. 15 mins later we were called and told to come right back because the vet wanted to talk to us, so we rushed back to the hospital. Now everything changed, the Vet now said the specialist wasn’t available and that we needed to make an appointment for 2-3 weeks to see the specialist. Now the vet also said we couldn’t leave the dog there cause we didn’t meet the full deposit. And that they couldn’t do MRI until the specialist saw the dog. By 4pm in the afternoon we were told to take our hurt dog back home and that they would give her a steroid shot to help her move a bit. Then they couldn’t give us our cash deposit back , said they would send a check next week. At this point I lost my patience and demanded our cash back, they said our deposit was put into a safe and they couldn’t get it back. They scraped up $1,900 in mainly 20s and singles … and I was told they would call next day to refund the rest. It is now Tuesday 4 days later , I have called several times no one wants to talk to me , I left voice mails no one has called back .. they haven’t given us the full refund still. So after 7 hrs of being in that hospital all they really cared for was the money … our dog spent 7hrs in a cage unable to move her chest was red one of her paw was red … my mother had not slept all night… the emotional stress sent her into depression and dehydration from all the crying. Our dog still in pain , still can’t move … please don’t bring your dog here.

Oradell Animal Hospital saved our little ferret girl, Freya. this past week. Throughout her 2-night hospital stay, the staff kept us in the loop of all the procedures she was getting, her outcomes, and her current state. Normally, I would be very nervous leaving my pet anywhere, but I know she was getting the most attentive and gentle care with OAH. We are forever grateful to them for their skillful veterinarians , specialists, and techs and their office staff. I wouldn't bring my babies anywhere else! THANK YOU THANK YOU!

I brought my beloved husky Meeko in early Friday morning for an emergency visit. It was my first experience with the team and the hospital. Despite the heartbreaking outcome for Meeko and my family, who had an extremely hard time coping with the loss of our baby, I was amazed by the professionalism and compassion everyone had. From the front desk to all the support staff and doctors, you made us feel the humanity and genuine care from all of you. I cannot describe in words how much we appreciate you. Thank you, Dr. Lee and everyone, for your support and care. I’m sorry I didn’t catch all of your names.
