How to Save Money at Mount Laurel Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had to very sadly put down my sweet baby and I couldn’t have been more satisfied with my decision to choose Mt Laurel Animal Hospital. The amount of empathy and compassion I was given was amazing. They walked me through the whole process step by step and I appreciated that they didn’t make me feel rushed to say my goodbyes. The vet technician Gabi that helped me was the sweetest lady I’ve ever met. She definitely made my girls last moments as comfortable as possible and I’m so thankful for that!

We have been going to Mount Laurel Animal Hospital since our first puppy in 1999. Since then, they have taken care of our five dogs (2 currently). Through the puppy stage to end of life, Mount Laurel Animal Hospital has been amazing and given great care and love to all our pets. They have so many resources and reached out to other animal hospitals to find a unique treatment for one of our special pets. With all the ups and downs of being a pet owner, Mount Laurel Animal Hospital has always done their absolute best for our fur children.

Gabi was the front receptionist on 8/18/23 @7pm. She was so polite and friendly and had my baby seen right away. I walked in without an appointment, he had been stung by a bee. I will be back, I appreciate the smiles and warm welcome. They gave him a liquid allergy shot and we sat for a bit while his energy simmered down. I’m also a military vet so seeing people handle my fur baby with respect and care by the rest of the team means the world. He is happy and healthy again. Thank you.

I had a late night emergency with my parakeet. It's incredibly rare to find an exotics vet, let alone an emergency one that's open 24/7. I arrived around 9:30-10 pm and the front desk staff were very kind and admitted my bird right away for care while I filled out information. I didn't wait long to be seen by the ER vet, who had assessed my bird and had contacted the on-call avian vet for recommended treatment. He gave me my options, and I had my bird stay the night. I was even allowed to see my bird before leaving. The next day the avian vet kept me updated on his condition through the day. Everyone I spoke with had a lot of compassion and care. I felt my bird was in good hands and that he was treated as if he was their own pet. I'm happy to say my bird is home and on the way to a full recovery!

This is our (unfortunately) second time to MLAH. The staff are phenomenal (I spoke with receptionist Heather on the phone and interacted with Taylor when we arrived). On our first visit unfortunately they did have to induce vomiting and it worked out in best case scenario. This time, they were able to observe our cat and send us home with what to look out for; no charge. This stuck out to us because we would have paid any amount of money if they said it would be beneficial but they were honest and said the object swallowed (fake spider web) wouldn’t show up in the images anyway given how thin it is. They are honest, helpful, and supportive. Won’t go anywhere else.
