How to Save Money at Washington Street Veterinary Service - Libby Nesvold DVM

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. My cat was sick for a few months and I brought her to this vet. I told them what was wrong with her and they only asked for a urine sample, they did not take blood or run any additional test. I spent 1000 dollars on medication for the cat because they told me it was an infection. After a month of medication she has no improvement. I called back to let them know and their only suggestion was another round of antibiotics (which clearly didn't work the first time) they didn't ask me to bring her back in or suggest any other test. I finally went to another vet today to find out my female cat is actually a male and that he has kidney failure, which if caught earlier maybe something could have been done. The lack of thoroughness and a plain laziness makes me sick. Do not ever bring your animal here if you care for their well-being. I would NEVER recommend this vet to anyone, not even my worst enemy.

Short Hills Club Pilates

After my regular vet failed to return phone calls and seemed to have too busy of a practice to take care of my cat's eye emergency, Dr. Nesvold was recommended to me. Although I had never been to this practice, they were willing to see me an hour after I called. I brought all my medical records and switched to Washington Street Vet. Services today! So grateful! Small family practice full of love!

PET OWNERS BEWARE!!! I took my dog here, BIG MISTAKE but I was desperate to find her help and work in Morristown. Had no idea I would be taken advantage of…. Definitely going to make sure this place is investigated. Brought my dog here because she has been sick, never got to actually talk to or meet the “veterinarian”. This place uses Covid as an excuse to not provide proper care…. Says it’s “curbside only” and they take your dog in. They took my dog inside for 7 minutes MAX and said she was perfectly fine and took a fecal sample I had brought in (which I was over charged for) they told me my dog had 2 parasites and prescribed her medications that was she unable to take. After she lost a tremendous amount of weight and I couldn’t get her to take the medication I assumed she needed I consulted Flanders vet clinic who was AMAZING and got me in right away. Allowed me to meet the doctor that took his time examining my dog and looked at her wondering which was the best route to start on without causing her more stress. They called this Morristown vet asking for the records and stated I needed to call. When I called the girl said “the doctor wants to know what your doing at another vet and what are you going to have done?” After I explained it was my their business, please send the records, the only sent the invoice’s (which I already had with me). After a day passed by with the vet continuously calling asking for the records and not getting them, I just offered to bring the vet a new fecal sample to just get the process going and get my dog on the right track since she hadn’t eaten for 5 days and I’m extremely concerned at this point. Well, the results came back and we’re completely negative so Morristown ghetto vet fake diagnosed my dog and provided poor care which resulted in my dog getting more sick. If anything further happens to my dog I am holding this vet completely responsible for fraudulent charges and diagnoses. Sorry I don’t have any photos of this run down clinic and the dog feces all over the steps.

Absolutely fantastic experience for an emergency visit. One of my dogs had a mysterious rash & was biting & scratching himself raw. Regular vet could not make time & said about 2wks for appt, ER vet said to come & check in but then said I had to wait in car & they would call in 4-5hrs. I called Washington Street Veterinary & they were kind enough to see my dog within the hour, efficiently diagnosed & treated for allergic reaction. They gave me meds & shampoo & scheduled a follow up for a week. Had a third follow up with shot again. Each visit was pleasant & efficient, so much so that while I really like my old vet that practice is too busy & hard to get appts & lots of waiting past appt time so I will make Washington Street my new animal care provider. Excellent service each visit

It appears this vet does not exist anymore. No functioning website or phone number anymore. Unprofessional and uncalled for that they did not even notify customers about this. Unknown now if we can even get access to our animals vet documents....
