How to Save Money at Reid Hill Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Best visit ever. Dr. Garcia is pretty awesome. Very informative and so compassionate. I had some issues with my new kitten and she calmed all my fears. She actually got on the floor and played with him. You can tell she loves her job. All the girls in the office are so nice too. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my baby. Totally recommend this office..

Fantastic vet! Dr Garcia and her staff are the best around! Dr Garcia is hands down the most thorough, no-nonsense, thoughtful, kind, and compassionate vets in the area! Her office is busy, but you never feel rushed and she always remembers your last visit and history. Everyone is very helpful and friendly, willing to go the extra mile. Highly recommend!

My dog is 13-1/2 years old. She means the world to me. When she was a small puppy, Dr. Garcia was her vet for a couple of years at Holmdel Veterinary Clinic. I thought she was wonderful. But then one day when I went for the annual checkup, Dr. Garcia was gone, and I was unable to find out where she went. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I was driving by her clinic and happened to notice the sign with her name on it. It was like finding out that you had a million dollars that you were previously unaware of (well maybe not quite, but you get my drift). I called and confirmed that it indeed was the same Dr. Garcia from all those years ago, and immediately made an appointment. I brought my sweet girl in for her checkup last night, and I can honestly say that the caring and love shown by the doctor and her entire staff was just unbelievable. I never felt rushed at all, and they took the time to answer every question I had and explain things in terms that I could understand. Needless to say, when a dog is as old as mine, she starts to have issues and unfortunately her health begins to deteriorate. And although it breaks my heart, it is a HUGE relief knowing that Dr. Garcia and her wonderful staff will be there every step of the way in these tough times. Thank you to all of you at Reid Hill. I wish I would have found you sooner.

So disgusted with Reid Hill veterinary. I called on Friday at 2:15 frantic about our dog Poe. I said I needed to speak with the doctor ASAP. Our Poe wasn't doing well at all and would not make it until Monday!!!!! She had just been back in the day before and the vet said she had a brain tumor. Prior we were told depression or possibly dementia. She had declined in health rapidly in just one month. She was only given gabapentin at Thursdays appointment. I called back again and left a message on the voicemail since they don't have an answering service!!!!! Again I said I needed help with our dog. I said we are going through the worst moment in our life and needed help! I finally received a call back Saturday afternoon from the same male receptionist that took my first message on Friday afternoon. He said in the message that he could reach out to the doctor if needed. No apology no concern. How much clearer could I have been??? I said it was an emergency on Friday afternoon!!!! Then again in the second message!!!! Our poor baby girl Poe suffered in pain until we had to make the decision to go to Red Bank emergency vet and end her life. If a dog has a brain tumor and is rapidly declining you don't call back???? You don't prescribe proper medications to make sure the pet is going to be pain free and comfortable??? Instead you do $100 test that will not help in any way!!!! You failed our Poe. She deserved better 💔🐾
