How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Friendly Staff, fast and efficient. They showed a lot of love to my buddy! They were mindful of the price of things. This is definitely the vet, I will always bring BoJack, too!

Banfield offers pet insurance plans that can offset the cost of emergency and well being visits. We have multiple pets and I can honestly say that for the most part the vet techs are exceptionally good with engaging with both you and your animal by explaining procedures, costs, options, and what to expect. The veterinarians are compassionate and always patient to answer all your questions and address your concerns. Some locations offer both veterinary care and grooming services which is always convenient. We've used Banfield for our gang for over 5 yrs now with very limited issues.

Been here twice. First time my dog died within 18hrs of being evaluated with Tests and blood work equalling $600! Was told to get pet insurance because they said my dog was fine. Dog died 18 hrs later and i was stuck with pet insurance bill of $1600 even though my dog died less than 24 hrs later Horrible establishment. Second time I went I had my dog evaluated and was told she had pink eye. She was given a pain med and eye ointment for two weeks. Two weeks later I had to have my dogs eye removed. These people need to be investigated.

All in all, the banfield wellness program is a decent deal cost wise. I was a vet tech, you get 2 free yearly visits to include vaccines, and a dental cleaning, and seriously discounted sick visits/medication/testing/care. I was a vet tech for a long time, and the cost of the program is about $55/month, so about $600/700 a year. A dental cleaning alone will run you between $1200-$1500. However, don’t expect them to see your pet same day if they’re sick. They need a few days to schedule an appointment because they’re always full. So any money you save on the wellness program you’ll blow having to use at another vet or ER services. The website is a nightmare, very difficult to use. I constantly get notifications that I’m overdue the monthly payment even though my card information is in there-“it’s in the wrong place”. So then they don’t automatically take out the monthly payment and won’t tell you about it for 4 months and you suddenly owe $250 all at once. Some of the vets-especially the Marlton NJ location are awful-they’re clearly just in it for the money. We were going to be 10 minutes late to an appointment for our sick dog. I delayed his treatment all day for this appointment and then called to tell them we would be late. They said to come anyway. 20 minutes later after sitting in rat 73 traffic with a puking dog, they called to tell us never mind because they would need a longer appointment for him. That’s fine, but I was very clear about the nature of his visit when i called earlier that morning to make the appointment and again when I said we’d be late. They wasted a good chunk of my time, gas, and our poor pup’s health.
