How to Save Money at Companion Care Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This was the best experience I have ever had at a Vet’s office! Not only is Dr. King highly competent she is also a wonderful and truly caring person. She took SO much time with my kitty and patiently answered all my questions and gave me suggestions that I really appreciate. Every staff member that I encountered was super friendly, kind and compassionate. I really can not say enough nice things about this animal clinic! If you are looking for a Veterinarian please don’t hesitate to make an appointment with Dr King!

This was my first visit to Companion Care Animal Clinic, with a dog that I recently adopted. I literally can't give them enough stars. Every single person who works there is friendly, helpful and a pleasure to be around! Dr. King was WONDERFUL! Very knowledgeable about everything and I learned so much that I hadn't know with my past dogs. I can't recommend them enough. If you are looking for a new Vet office look no further. Companion Care Animal Clinic is it!

We've followed Dr Patricia King from Edison to Colts Neck to Marlboro for over 11 years. She has taken care of our dog, Teddy, guiding us and providing expert, compassionate, loving care from emergencies to managing his various chronic issues, to giving routine wellness care. We consider ourselves most fortunate to have her in our lives. There are many important benefits to developing a long-term, trusting relationship with your Vet. Dr. King knows our dog so well that she can tell if he is ill just by observing his behavior. Being in a small, cutting-edge private practice with a Vet who really knows and understands your pet makes a world of difference in the long term quality of their lives as well as in their longevity. He is now 12 1/2, and in great shape because of her vigilance and care. She surrounds herself with an equally compassionate, highly skilled, and very caring team of professionals who shower their love, kindness, and affection on Teddy as soon as he walks through the door. He feels right at home and happily prances into the clinic giving kisses to his favorite folks. There is no procedure that he's ever had where he was anxious, fearful, or nervous, and he's had numerous procedures over the years, from routine to complex. That is most reassuring and comforting to us. Teddy has tremendous confidence in Dr. King and her team, and allows her to perform any procedure necessary. We have witnessed this same wonderful treatment given to other patients in her practice. Recently, we moved to Western Maryland, a 400-round trip drive to her clinic. It speaks volumes and is a testament to how we feel about Dr. King, her incredible team, and the quality of care that Teddy always receives. We choose to continue to have her as our beloved Vet and will gladly travel the distance to have her continue Teddy's sick and well care. It's as simple as that, he is always treated like well-loved family. In our world, no one else can measure up to her; Trust, her approach to his care, plus our long-time relationship help keep Teddy active and in the best health possible. We want Teddy to age gracefully and live his best life under her very watchful, skilled eyes for many years to come.

I've been seeing Dr. King and the girls with my dog Benji for about a year and my cat Dip for a little longer. Of course, there aren't words to express the level of satisfaction having Dr. King as my primary vet brings me! At today's visit, however, I had the pleasure of meeting their new part time vet, Dr. Nemeth. Dr. Nemeth was compassionate, kind and friendly and I am elated to see that Dr. King has found such a kind and compassionate doctor to join the practice.
