How to Save Money at Animals First + Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff was friendly and informative. The facility was very clean and smelled nice. My dog had instant releave from her urine/bladder infection. I will definitely be visiting them again for any future needs.

We Had an amazing experience here at Animals First Veterinary Medicine. The staff is not just friendly but they really care. When making the appointment the receptionist was very kind and helpful, when we had came in for our appointment. Stephanie was very kind to us again, and made small talk with us while we were waiting so we weren’t just sitting there quietly. Sarah, our tech was awesome as well. She didn’t just give us our medication she stayed with us and talked to us about it and what is was for and how it would help. My tech and the doctor were extremely well knowledgeable, and they don't push products on us or give any unnecessary medication that would help. I highly recommend this place and will continue to take our dog here!

My Experience is unique, they’re all usually polite and friendly people, the environment is nice and I am not discouraging others from visiting. I had a wonderful experience when I had a dog and was using this same vet But I wholeheartedly believe that when I took my one month old kittens to be checked out after one had a fall something was done (I Don’t think out of malice) that caused five out of six to die within two days. Despite my obvious apprehension when my adult cat had tapeworms I went back and I spent $1500 over the course of one week for vaccinations and a quarter of that was exam fees, one set of fees ($90) consisted of a tech giving my cats vaccinations in the lobby. Needless to say I won’t be returning

Honestly it was not a great experience whatsoever. Took my cat in for vomiting and stomach issues, the staff was nice but the doctor was not compassionate or really helpful at all, no bedside manner or understanding. I was of course super worried and I was a little on edge but I did not feel understood. The exam felt very rough to me for a sick cat that was obviously in distress and not feeling well. $500+ later I left crying from then experience with really no answers. It wasn’t until the end that I felt like he was trying to be nice to “recover” the situation. I took him to my regular vet and they could not have been more compassionate or helpful. (Heart and Paw Cherry Hill highly recommend)I really don’t ever leave reviews but I am still upset about the whole experience and from reading the reviews after I just wish I had known before taking him there.

I needed a last minute vet appointment to have my puppy checked and vaccinated for domestic travel! The staff were super friendly! I loved Amanda especially, the hospital manager! It was my first time traveling with a pet & as a pet owner everything was a bit new and I wasn’t sure about the requirements. She helped me research online and gave clarification on the rules and went the extra mile to provide a professional letter for the airline (not required) to make sure we’ll fly without any trouble! GRATEFUL TO HAVE MET HER!
