How to Save Money at Meadowlands Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I just want to say thank you to Meadowlands Vet for being there for our cat Maximus and our family these past 3 years. Even when Max suddenly and tragically passed on Tuesday at home, Meadowlands Vet opened their arms to us allowing us to bring Maximus to them to give us closure on how he died and to comfort us with words ( Thank you Dr Desai and the techs) and they gave us his paw prints on a card as a memory I will keep and cherish forever. They truly care about the animals that come in thru their doors. I will only trust my animals with them. When I took in Maximus as a kitten he was sick, throughout his almost 3 years of life, he battled various illnesses from respiratory infections as a kitten to anemia last year that required transfusions. Dr Marteney’s care for him kept him healthy and comfortable and taught me a lot being a first time cat owner. I was able to give him the best kitty life. He was happy and spoiled in his time here. My other cat Jasper will continue to be their patient and when I’m ready to take in another fur baby in honor of Maximus, I will bring them to Meadowlands too. Thank you guys we appreciate all you do The Matani Family

Highly do not recommend. Extremely money hungry. I was willing to give then another chance when my dog had an emergency and they refused to fit him at all over an entire weekend. When you call they put out on hold for 40 minutes. Look elsewhere if you care about your pet.

My visit to Meadowlands was truly exceptional. The medical team went above and beyond to diagnose my dog's severe skin condition, and the nursing staff patiently walked me through the treatment plan and billing process. The front desk team was top-notch, even following up the next day to check on my pup's well-being. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

TERRIBLE terrible terrible service. I had the worst experience of my life at the hands of Dr. Robin Gwiazdowski. She convinced me that my perfectly healthy puppy was dying of an infectious disease. She made me get tests and x-rays done immediately, none of them even relevant to the supposed disease. She then had me rush into a major surgery. I had gone in for a routine check-up as a new client and left the clinic with an empty wallet and a healthy puppy having her vital organs nearly removed. Thankfully, I went to a different clinic for a second opinion before undergoing the surgery; they told me my dog was perfectly healthy and did not see any signs of illness. None. Not only does Meadowlands Vet. steal your money, they do so at the expense of your pet's life. Dr. Robin Gwiazdowski should not be allowed to practice medicine. SHE HURTS ANIMALS. STAY AWAY. I know it can seem tempting to go in for a simple check-up since they always have appointments available, but it is never worth the risk. Look elsewhere. If anyone requires further proof of my claims, reach out. If there is any ongoing lawsuit against Meadowlands I'd be happy to sign on. They shouldn't be allowed to operate, scamming people and hurting animals. Edit: It wasn’t poor planning, I would be out of state for 1 month so I needed a letter that would be valid from 12/29 - 01/29, this was made clear prior to my making the appointment. Secondly, I did not consult a “cheaper” vet, I consulted an honest facility with transparent pricing. Thirdly, the costs incurred are in the thousands which is considerably less than the $10,000 I would have been charged for the surgery that your doctor rushed me into, but is more than the $83 you are claiming. Lol. You did put my dog’s life at risk for no other reason apart from financial gain. There were several “miscommunications” on your part.

Brought my pet b/c she had blood in her stool and wasn't eating or, drinking. That was 9/30/2023 I was charged $975.00 and wasn't even given a discharge plan or, clinical summary. 5 days later my pet still has blood in stool. When I called the receptionist was less than professional at best. She insisted she emailed said documents and got cocky nd rude. When I asked her to double check, she verified that she mistakenly emailed the invoice twice and not after care plans. No compassion for me or, my pet!!! Charged me additional $50 for same prescription. They must've paid someone to post these other reviews b/c I never was treated so coldly and with such disregard. These people should be ashamed of themselves!!!
