How to Save Money at Flemington Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My pets have been patients of Flemington veterinary hospital for about 9 years now, and we have always experienced excellent care. Every doctor on staff has been caring and exceptional. The auxiliary staff has always been courteous and very helpful about getting us in quickly and very efficient with returning calls. I’ve never had an unsatisfactory visit between all three of my dogs for a variety of visits including well visits, sick visits, and surgical procedures. Strongly recommend this practice.

Please don’t bring your pets there!! It started with very unhappy and unfriendly receptionist that’s sitting there. Unprofessional so called veterinarian who couldn’t tell what’s wrong with our dog, she didn’t know how to take an xray of a big dog so she took half of it only. She said he has gas/air in his stomach and we should give him GasX. It didn’t help so we took him to another hospital and there they said that his stomach is filled with fluids! So she couldn’t even tell the difference between gas and fluids!!! All this hospital care about is money!

I was a patient here before I was an employee. I can honestly speak so positively about the entire team at Flemington Vet. My dog has been seen by all of the doctors who work here — and every single time it is thorough and well explained. After working here, I can truthfully speak on the amount of care each staff member has for each of the animals. The doctors, techs, kennel nurses, pharmacy, receptionists, — everyone is so caring, careful, and often check in on the patients continuously. It is truly unmatched. The hospital patients are always watched over and kept comfortably. The practice is always kept extremely clean & organized. I will always recommend this practice to everyone I come across and I’m so grateful for the doctors & entire staff. Thank you guys so much for all you do!

I’m fairly new to this practice . My little dog little Bear is a Pomeranian and is the center of my World . Dr Devon is extremely kind and little Bear being a Pom can be anxious and he is not one bit like that with Dr Devon you can tell by the dog he trust her completely. Dr Devon handles little Bear so gently and you can see Bear feels very comfortable with her . I’m so happy to have her to care for him he’s a 11 and has some health issues but has truly been so lucky to have had the best care a long the way in his life now we have been blessed with Dr Devon. I’m so grateful for Dr Devon she is truly a doctor who cares and loves what she does . She will take the time to explain everything to you so calmly and you never feel rushed she truly cares and conveys this effortlessly to you she puts your mind at such ease as well as your heart. Little Bear is so lucky to have her and me too . Thank you Dr Devon for being so awesome….. love Little Bear & his Mama

If I could give 0 stars for this place, I would. Don't expect anyone to return your calls if you leave a voicemail. In addition, be prepared to deal with rude, nasty, and snarky receptionists (specifically Loretta) who will make you feel stupid/horrible for calling. While the doctor's might be good, the experience ruins it all and is not worth the time and stress these receptionists create. Please consider going to another facility as I promise you will have a better experience. :)
