How to Save Money at Emerson Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Let me begin with I've been going to this animal hospital for 10+ years and my last visit changed my perspective on this money-hungry veterinary office. I sent my son to go get our perfectly healthy three-year-old dog a rabies vaccine. I specifically told him to mention she only needed the rabies shot and nothing else. When he arrived at the hospital he specifically told the receptionist, and doctor that she only needed the shot. All went well and my son continued to pay for what he had believed was the cost of the shot. The front desk worker had just named a price and my son believed that was the cost without seeing any breakdown for the charge. My son gives me the receipt later on and I'm in shock at how much the shot was. I later go on to see that they had charged for an office visit which had cost more than the actual shot. I was in disbelief at how I was charged for something I didn't ask for and was never told about, as well as something that took two seconds to do. I decide to call the office and try and get a refund for the office visit. I was told I would not be getting a refund and that they don't have to tell people about extra charges. I'm still in disbelief and disappointed at how an animal hospital took advantage of a healthy dog and a young face. Just be aware next time you take your pet there and make sure you aren't being charged for anything you don't need!!

I was a longtime client here and I've referred many friends and family here because of how wonderful this office USED to be(even after moving almost 45 minutes away I still was willing to make the trip). Over a week ago I called looking for a simple nail trim appointment for my dog. When I called they let me know they had something available for 12 in the afternoon the following week I wrote it down while I was on the phone put it on my calendar. Should be that simple right? No. I arrived for my appointment to be told by a receptionist who looked and sounded like she couldn't care less that I had a 10:45am-that I missed my appointment and everyone was on lunch, the end. She never offered to rebook, NOPE didn't even try, basically said to us "oh well. We can't help you." and turned her head. So lazy, unprofessional, and unbelievably rude. I had to ask “why did no one call me and tell me I was late? Why did no one confirm at all?! Why was I told 12?!” No answer just couldn't be bothered. **In the year 2022 who doesn't text/email confirmations for appointments?!** Some of the vets here are wonderful, despite the horror stories I've read and heard (not returning emergency phone calls etc, not refilling regular meds, etc). Bottom line the office is dirty and dated in many ways (physically and technologically) and it's something I looked past for a long time because how nice the staff WAS. They have lost a loyal client today. Do yourself a favor and skip this place and the headaches.

They were AMAZING!! Took my 7 month old pit bull Zeus for a neuter two days ago. Dr. Esposito and Head Tech Loretta answered all my questions before I needed to even ask any. They treated Zeus like he was one of their own and I couldn’t be happier!! Thank you so much for your great work!!

What a friendly and knowledgeable place. We purchased a voucher from Friends of Animals for our puppies spayed procedure. First time we ever went to Emerson. They took such wonderful care of our precious puppy Sadie. We dropped her off at 8 AM met with Dr Esposito he did an examination and we left. She was ready for pick up at 4:30PM. Everyone one at the front desk, the doctors and support staff were just fabulous. It’s great to know I have another Vet I can rely on. Thank you Emerson Animal Hosital 🐶

My puppy loves it here! She always comes in happy/excited and comes out the same way. Dr. Korsgen has made every experience here great and we are so appreciative Editing to emphasize how GRATEFUL we really are! We couldn’t have picked a better place to take care of Penny- having your pup injured is scary for your pup… let alone you. We always felt informed and in the right place. Thank you to everyone at EAH - can’t wait for her regular check ups
