How to Save Money at Colonial Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We just moved here recently, and my Yorkie Jimmy gets car sick so I was excited that they literally are down the block from us. I had their well visits to get established and came back for a visit when my havanese Nicky was having an issue two months ago. Amanda the tech is so sweet and great w my boys and Dr Vokral is also so sweet and great w them. So far I’m very happy with them and feel so blessed that they are literally a minute away.

I have not visited Colonial Animal Hospital but Dr. Schindewolf literally saved my cat's life a few years back when he was with another facility. The other vets at the prior facility basically told me it was time to put my cat down due to untreated (unknown at the time) diabetes which was shutting down his organs. Dr. Schidewolf treated him aggressively for weeks and saved his life! Dr. Schindewolf, Weezy Caruso is still alive and well thanks to you! I was not at all happy with the prior facility in all aspects but Dr. Schindewolf was WONDERFUL! I am so happy to see that he is with a new (and has to be better) establishment.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Dr. Petrone, Dr. Schindewolf, Dr. Vokral, Dr Poole & the rest of the staff for taking such good care of Gizmo for the past few months. Gizmo is a dog that we are fostering for Cuddly Creatures Inc Animal Rescue, who was previously very neglected prior to entering the rescue & is still dealing with alot of medical issues. It means a lot to us & to this little guy that he always receives such warmth & care from everyone at this establishment. Today he got an ultrasound, his ears lasered & packed with long acting ear meds & he got a medicated bath. Dr. Petrone & the other Veterinarians at this practice are very knowledgeable & caring & the rest of the staff couldn’t have been nicer. I highly recommend using this establishment for your pets.

As a family, we truly value and appreciate the clinical services and care that has been provided at Colonial Veterinary Clinic. Many positive impressions stand out every time our dog, Shadow, receives care from Dr. King and her amazing team. Shadow is an elderly dog, 15.5 years old, with multiple health challenges and we travel 45 minutes quite regularly so he can continue to be treated by Dr. King (followed from a previous practice). His many challenges are met with a smile, love, compassion, and dignity by the entire team. In the Spring of 2019, his health was failing and we were sure he would be leaving us soon. However, Dr. King did not give up and through much love and excellent care has enabled him to have a full and enjoyable life. She has not only expertly treated Shadow but supported the family during some difficult times during his care. He continues to run, play and enjoy a very good quality of life at his ripe old age. We have felt welcomed from the moment we first walked through the doors of Colonial Veterinary Clinic and, because of the frequency of our visits, at home with family. The clinic is run with efficiency and kindness by all the staff. From reception to veterinary technicians to doctors, you will not find a better group of professional, knowledgeable, and caring individuals to treat your pets.
