How to Save Money at Symbios Animal Health
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My family and I are so grateful to our former vet who recommended Symbios Animal Health in Chatham to us when he retired. The team here is exceptional. They treated our senior dog with so much love and kindness in her final year. The care is personalized, so each vet and vet tech knew our dog by name and knew her health history. (We wish we could go to the vet for our health care!) We also opted to pay for the less-expensive concierge plan, which lasted the year and covered all exam fees. It gave us access to their 24/7 phone line, which was crucial in our dog’s last few months. We highly recommend checking out their annual plans! Ours ended up being worth the investment 10 times over. It took away a lot of financial anxieties so we could just focus on getting our dog good care. You can call to ask the team more information about their yearly plans. When we unfortunately had to say goodbye to our dog, the Symbios team did a beautiful job of making it quiet and comfortable for her. We are so grateful to them for making her transition as easy as possible given the circumstances. Thank you for the compassion you showed our puppy from beginning to end.

Symbios Animal Health is the absolute best! I rescued a shelter dog and initially brought her to another vet. I didn’t feel like my pup was getting the best care and made the transfer here. Best decision I’ve ever made! The entire team is fantastic! From the second I walk in, they are making sure my pup is comfortable. They get right on the floor with her, offer toys and treats and form a bond with her. The doctors and supporting team are so knowledgeable and spend so much time with her! I’ve NEVER felt rushed. Nothing is done without an explanation. The membership model that they use is top notch and very personalized. I have a patient advocate that I can text whenever about anything…..and I have! Always with a quick response, my questions are answered and I am put at ease. When something happens over the weekend, no waiting until Monday to contact the office. I could go on and on but Symbios is first-rate veterinary care. You will not find anyone or any place better.

You know how you can tell that a veterinarian cares about your animal when they notice their personality characteristics and cater to them without any insight or prompting from you? In full disclosure, my dog does not love coming to Symbios - but only because I have left him there on two separate occasions for procedures and he does not approve of being left behind. He has separation anxiety and thinks he is being abandoned when we visit, so he gets rightfully anxious when we pull up. However, his attitude is wholly different at the end of each experience because under their watchful eye, he is a happy, healthy almost 12 year old dog with a lot of spunk and attitude. The Symbios team is allowing him to keep up his youthful charisma by taking such good care of his rotting teeth, his oozing warts, his lazy thyroid, etc..even when met with his ornery attitude during our appointments. They follow up to see how he is after shots or procedures and they listen to my (sometimes ridiculous) concerns. They are kind and thoughtful, responsive, and capable. To my earlier point about them truly "knowing" him and catering to him without me, on one of his "on-site" visits, they allowed him to commandeer one of the chairs in their examination rooms for a siesta to keep him calm, rather than relegating him to a crate. My boy does not know from crates and is aghast at the thought of being trapped in one (he will whine the whole time, so you are aware of his objection). But I digress.. Their pricing/membership model is top notch, as is the care and attention your pet will receive. Don't hesitate if you are on the fence.

Dr. Armani and the entire Symbios team are absolutely amazing. As a long-time dog owner, I have had my share of vet's over the years, and the Symbios team was the first group who I felt truly cared for my dog. I can't recommend them enough. If your pet is in distress, they will drop everything to care for your precious animal. Dr. A is incredibly knowledgeable with the best bedside manner. The entire team is patient and take their time answering all the questions I had. I never once felt rushed in our visits and they always followed up to check on my pet. This is what veterinary practices should be.
