How to Save Money at Belleville Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is by far the best veterinarian I've ever been too, both Bonnie and Dr.ash are very friendly and I've never been more confident that a vet office actually cares about my animals, they are both very well educated and every step they take to help your pet is explained so that you know exactly what's happening and why, Belleville animal hospital is the best

I'm an avid writer of reviews and always give credit where it's due. Dr. Ash is the very best that I've ever seen as a vet HANDS DOWN!!! And believe me, I've been to many a vet's office over the years. From the moment we walked in until the second we left, myself and my pet were made to feel important. Not only was Dr. Ash very attentive and express genuine concern over my dog's condition, he took the time to explain from A to Z the cause of my pet's ailment but provided a proactive approach to his recovery. With medications and a recommended new DIET, just a couple of days now and my dog is 100% better than what he was. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to both Dr. Ash and Bonnie, you guys have restored my faith in veterinary care! See you soon on the follow-up appointment. :-)

Overcharged me for a 10 minute visit, where all he did was give us an ointment. The "receipt" claims he did an exam and a cleaning, in addition to the cost of the ointment. The charges on the receipt weren't provided until after I paid, even though I had asked about it before payment. Find somewhere else to go unless you want to pay additional charges.

Bonnie and Dr. Ash are our angels sent from heaven above! One night, my dog, Bob, woke up crying in constant pain. I called my vet immediately, just to be told they didn't have any availability until August and referred me to a 24-hour emergency animal hospital. After spending 10 hours (and $1,000) at the hospital, they were unable to give me a confirmed diagnosis and sent him back home with some pain killers. It worked for one day. Then the crying, pain, and symptoms all came back, even worse this time. He wasn't drinking or eating and wasn't able to urinate or have bowel movements. I reached out to the hospital, just to be told all they could do is run more tests and schedule a sonogram in a week. That was completely unacceptable so I began looking for a doctor that can provide help and answers. That's when I came across Belleville Animal Hospital. Probably sounding like a paranoid frantic pet owner from 3 days and nights of no sleep with my baby constantly crying in pain, I began pleading and begging hoping that they would be able to help. Bonnie and Dr. Ash empathized with my worries and concerns and agreed to see Bob immediately. After a couple of hours, Dr. Ash was able to explain and educate me, in detail, on his diagnosis and list other possible ailments Bob might have. They went above and beyond to help my baby feel better. Dr. Ash gave me the exact type of medications to take home to keep helping Bob get better, not just a bunch of weak painkillers to mask the underlying issues like the hospital did. We received answers, results, a course of action, and more support from the two hours spent with Bonnie and Dr. Ash than the 2 days of going back and forth with the emergency hospital. I know Bob is still ill and the treatment is going to take a while. But for me and Bob to finally be able to rest comfortably day and night with no more crying, and his appetite for food and water get back to normal, is nothing short of a miracle!
