How to Save Money at Berkeley Veterinary Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

So happy with Berkeley Vet Center and the staff! Being a new mom to my puppy brings a lot of questions and concerns like best ways to care for and train her. My sweet Brooke, LOVES Dr. Forster, her assistants Brigid and Destiny as well as the front desk receptionist who is always so friendly as we come and go. They're all always so gentle and attentive with her that its definitely become one of her "happy places" to visit! Outside of her regular check-ups, I was also very impressed with how an "urgent care" visit was handled so quickly, by making time to bring her in between visits that same day. They also always do a follow-up call the day after any visit she has there. So appreciated!! Thank you BVC for your awesome staff and customer service!

I began going to Berkeley Veterinary Center about a year ago, after trying a few local vets. I decided to stay with Berkeley Veterinary Center for a few positive reasons. My doberman was scene by both vets, but mainly Dr. Wes. The whole entire staff members from the veterinary doctors, vet techs, and front desk staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Myself & my doberman enjoy the open seating area that is separate for dogs and cats. They don't ask you to wait in the vehicle, like the covid days. They are very aware of my dobermans personality and make her feel like a queen. She looks forward to her peanut butter and cheese lick pads. They make every experience both a pleasure for myself and my dog. My doberman very recently had her spay surgery. The incision is clean & healing well. Lastly, I don't feel rushed when I ask questions. I get a thorough visit each time I am there. This is 100 percent our new vet.

First time visit to this vet office to establish my dog with a new local office after a recent move to the area. Was very impressed from front desk, Debbie, to the vet techs (very knowledgeable and hands on), Amanda and vet asst Maya. Liked Vet Alyssa that saw my boy Oliver. They were very thorough going over his previous records and care. Highly recommend.

Twice in less than a year I had emergency with my dog. First time we thought we were going to lose him and now he had a cut on his side that I could have fit my head into, that’s how big the hole was. Both times were emergencies. First time we were in a panic calling everywhere around to take him. Most places told us he isn’t a patient here we can’t see him or he hasn’t been here in a while so you will be on a two week waiting list. Go to the emergency vet hospital that I’ve been to years ago and if you can’t leave an arm n leg you can’t get in. Meaning you hope you had money saved. By some miracle we called this place and told us to come in. They were fast and reasonable. They pretty much saved him from certain death and didn’t cost me my first born. So this time I knew where to go. Thank you for everything! I definitely recommend Berkeley Veterinary Center for your pet. Friendly, lifesaving, affordable.. I recommend if you have a pet make sure you have a job!

We moved here 5 years ago and were so lucky to have found our favorite vet ever. They helped us through a cat with cancer, and a cat that has major anxiety. My girl is 16 years old and she always stays fairly calm in the office even with her anxiety. I think it's the window she likes to look out of in the cat room. Dr. Alyssa is our fave! And Bridgett the vet tech has been amazing too! We also love Dr. Tony who helped us with our other baby's liver cancer. They are very empathetic. We have never found a vet center we liked this much before.
