How to Save Money at Bayonne Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This was my first walk in visit Which they do not do anymore but she was kind enough to help me and fit us in. LUCY had some trouble and I am so glad she took us. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. DR. Kate Norby was also very good She was very pleasant She listened to what we had to say about Lucy she didn't rush us out her office like other vets do. She will be Lucy's vet from now on. We loved our whole first experience.. they even took Lucy a picture and gave her a first visit bandana. ❤️🥰

The staff here are great and loves my dog which is why I continue to come here. They have excellent customer service which is very important to me. They provide my dog with the best care possible. I am also glad they open 6 days a week and close on certain holidays. I gave them 4 stars only because their services can be expensive!! It's a good thing I have pet insurance or I would have gone elsewhere.

My first experience was awesome , however the cost just to see the doctor is $100+ . I just got a pitbull , already I had taken her 4 times to the vet , The second time I came to have my dogs nail checked because she was limping , The doctor didn't see that and I had to tell her exactly what the issue is and where , at first we thought it was a bone or muscle issue. After some time , I saw that her nail was the issue , it's really annoying the doctor didn't thoroughly check, I do not like that. If I'm spending $100+ to come see you , I expect you to check my dog fully for that price. Evidently, they're more reactive then proactive and the prices just can't cutt, I will be switching to a different vet because it's economically not smart to continue. I'm a technician , when they call me to fix a computer , I follow up make sure the computer is good without an extra fee.

This place scams you for 100 dollars right upfront. I called and asked about basic vaccinations for my kitten, and they told me I could come in and they NEED to do a basic assessment as I was never there before, and then they will discuss pricing for the vaccines offered/recommended. They told me up front that the basic evaluation would be 100, but they failed to mention that every vaccine they offered was literary 3-4x more expensive than any of the neighboring clinics. I thought the prices would be more reasonable; so I didn’t get anything done other than then them weighing my cat and taking his temperature: I suggest going to the animal hospital in hillside, I brought in a stray the other day there and she had some vaccines done, bloodwork, check up, and nails clipped for under 120 dollars; as well as having an overall more pleasant experience.

I brought in my Pitbull Lucy for a checkup and shots. The staff were super friendly and gave her lots of attention. Dr. Norby was also very nice & knowledgeable. The visit was thorough even despite my dog’s nervous demeanor. She got lots of love & treats from the staff to help calm her down. Our first visit was a very pleasant one. I’ll be bringing her back.
