How to Save Money at Littleton Area Veterinary Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our American Bulldog has some terrible luck, but we've been fortunate to have Littleton Veterinary Urgent Care for those after hour emergencies. The staff are comforting, knowledgeable and really make a difficult situation a lot easier to handle. Thank you to everyone working these hard situations 🙌 for staying the late night into the early morning hours performing surgery on our boy. You're all truly a gift, I can't say enough how much we appreciate everything you do.-Lopez Family and Osiris

Highly recommended! It is so worrying to have a sick pup when you’re traveling far from home. The team at Littleton were extremely reassuring, helpful, knowledgeable, and quick. Special shout out to Jenna, who provided amazing customer service!

A few weeks ago my dog had a neurological episode. I brought her in to Littleton Area Veterinary Urgent Care. I wasn’t allowed to go in with her and had to wait outside. The real kicker is when the vet called me, he basically told me that my dog had a brain tumor and he wanted to put her down that night. I told him I didn’t want to, and he accepted that but wasn’t happy. He kept saying it would be “reasonable” to put her down. Zero compassion or recognition that it was a horribly hard decision, no recognition that this dog is my best friend. I went with my gut and brought her home. It’s been a couple weeks and my dog is COMPLETELY NORMAL. She has a mild head tilt, but otherwise she is 100% back to herself and behaving normally. I do have an appointment with a neurologist to check and see if she does have a tumor, but regardless she obviously didn’t need to be put down that night. I’ve heard from multiple people that one vet there is great and the other is awful. Clearly, I got the latter.

They are fantastic. We had to use their euthanasia services for our 13 year old good boy Moxie. Maddie greeted us with compassion and walked Moxie in. After they obtained IV access they came and got us. Moxie was sitting on a comfy blanket in a space that resembled a living room. They had an ice cream treat and chocolate “because no dog shall pass without ever tasting chocolate.” Maddie made us a paw print of Moxie that was sent home with us. Then we had privacy and we gave Moxie the treats. We were told let us know when you are ready for doctor. There was no rush, we got to spend enough time as we wanted with Moxie. When we asked for doctor (I cannot recall his name) he greeted us with compassion and explained the next steps. My wife and I got to lay on the floor with Moxie as he crossed over that rainbow bridge. We got privacy after to say our final good byes. We opted to get a nose print and individual cremation. Thank you for helping us during this time, you all are so good. Darrell and Kelly Bormann

Our wonderful dog Loco passed away. He was 15. They were very sorry for our loss. They were very compassionate and caring. We had his remains cremated. They understand how important your fur babies are, they got us Loco's remains back to us within a week. The front desk worker Mattie was very sweet and caring. She knew that this was a hard time for us. Thank you to everyone for helping us through this difficult time.
