How to Save Money at Animal Spay-Neuter Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This clinic is so important to the community. They run their day like a well oiled machine. Follow instructions at drop off and be patient until your pet is ready. My kitten was neutered, dropped off around 7:30 am and was ready to go at 12:30 pm. I wish there were more spay and neuter clinics like this one. Yes, the parking lot is small but I parked one block north and walked, no big deal. The benches and decor are cute. Always adopt, don't shop too!

**0 stars. Yeah, absolutely not— I don’t recommend going to this place at all. I was told to drop off my 7 mo old kitten at 7:30AM and that it wouldn’t be long to pick him up. I noticed that a bunch of other animals were being dropped off at the same time too and i didn’t understand why... I started to feel uneasy after about 4 hours passed so I called and they said your kitten is still waiting his turn. So basically they have all animals dropped off in the morning and leave them in their carrier/kennel the entire time!! Also, we were told to stop feeding him at 10PM the night before so he didn’t eat/drink for over 13 hours at that point. I followed my gut feeling and had my husband take him out before the procedure. We are going to a cleaner & more humane place. Also, it should be disclosed to customers that your animal will be placed in a kennel where other animals previously were & that they could be waiting for hours before the procedure!! If I would’ve known that I wouldn’t have gone! Absolutely ridiculous!!!

Since I was a kid, AS&N has been a fixture in my life. My grandparents lived down the street, and Kit & Bobby (RIP) and took care of their animals as if they were their own. When their calico, Bandit, passed away, AS&N sent roses. That’s just the type of people they are. As an adult, I used Dr. Trost until he reached his well deserved retirement. I wasn’t really sure where to go after that. Briefly, I tried using another vet and was left deeply unsatisfied. It seemed a natural progression to take my little monsters to AS&N, as we live blocks away. Upon taking the kitten, Dweezil, in for his big day (neuter) I was really impressed. These guys do a lot of volume. But they’ve got a wonderful pager system in place, and the ordeal is no muss, no fuss. They’re organized. And their receptionist is warm, kind, personable and professional. She immediately assuaged my cat-mom fears and assured me that Dweezil would be just fine, and even referenced Frank Zappa when she caught his name. I knew I was in good hands. Dweezil’s procedure was extremely fast, and cost effective. And to make matters even more impressive, I called just today in order to get more of the dog’s heart worm meds (a task that my former “vet” assured me would have been completed via a simple fax they never sent) and it was a breeze. AS&N’s rockstar receptionist spared no time in having my personally text her a photo of the script, and has kept me updated as we go. If you want an honest vet’s office, look no further. These guys are the real deal.

The Nebraska spayed and neuter clinic is a very affordable services for your animals. They want to spayed and neuter animals so that we do not have the overabundance of animals running the streets that we have had in the past. This is a very friendly staff and are willing to work with you to make sure your fur babies are cared for properly!

Took great care of our little cat. Wonderful treatment, fair price and great after care. Other than their parking lot being a little silly to get in/out of, its fantastic.
