How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The team at Vetco is phenomenal! Dr. Peterson and her techs took the time to educate me about my cat's diabetic diagnosis. They answered my questions and took the time to show my how to administer his insulin properly. Now, he is doing well, and I am confident in our abilities for his care here at home.

Dr. Peterson and the techs, especially Jordan and Jasmine, are extremely helpful and you can tell they care about what they do. I brought my dog in for a large hematoma in her ear and they were excellent in dealing with the issue and giving me direction on the next steps. They are phenomenal at responding to calls and answering questions when calling to get updates on the pet after procedures. I have had nothing but positive experiences with anyone I encountered there and they did a great job of care for my dog. I feel they are knowledgeable and understanding and would recommend them to any friends or family. They also do a great job making your pet feel comfortable in situations that are not ideal. I am extremely pleased with the visits and surgery they preformed to help my dog and appreciate their continued involvement.

I am beyond happy with the staff that helped save my dogs life. I brought in my American Bully, Kingston on 8/14/2024 for what I believe was a UTI. Due to their quick response they were able to diagnosis my boy with kidney stones which had caused a blockage. Thankfully, Dr. Brizett Peterson, was able to fit him into her schedule and get him into surgery immediately. The love and compassion we received from these people will forever stick with us. Thank you for saving our boy.

Both Dr. Peterson and Dr. Mohr are great but I've seen Dr. Peterson more & she assisted me with my dogs euthanasia last year. I adore Dr. Peterson and have recommended her & Vetco in general numerous times now. All the Vet Techs have also been very compassionate and patient. I've been going here for 4 years now and wouldn't have it otherwise. I genuinely cannot recommend them enough, best vet clinic I've ever been to and I will continue to drive from the opposite side of town to see them. Thank you so much to everyone @ Vetco, you're appreciated more than you know.

On a road trip from Chicago back home to Denver, our dog Miner had a very serious eye injury, which turned out to be a melting ulcer. Luckily we were able to get into Vetco with Dr. Peterson right away. She immediately put him on an intense treatment; which included eye drops once an hour, and a variety of painkillers and antibiotics. She also had us schedule an appointment with a veterinary ophthalmologist the following morning as soon as we returned home. Our ophthalmologist was very impressed with the level of care Miner received and said that they would have prescribed the exact same protocol. I am now happy to report that, two weeks later, we have returned from a follow-up appointment. Miner’s ulcer has shrunk from almost his entire eye to a tiny spot. He still has a long way to go, but he is recovering well! He may even get his vision back in his eye. Without Dr. Peterson’s quick diagnosis, effective treatment, and compassion, there is a good chance that Miner would have lost his eye, or worse. We are incredibly grateful to her and the rest of the team at Vetco. My only regret is that she is in Lincoln, Nebraska and we are in Denver so we can’t make her our regular vet.
