How to Save Money at South Ridge Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had an appointment to get my dog spayed, but they needed to change it. This was fine, but then when I went in for my next appointment they tell me she started her heat, Now it’s gonna be another 175 dollars to continue. I didn’t feel like that was right when my scheduled appointment got moved. So I said I’ll wait tell after her heat. They did not inform me that they had already gave her a sedative and I owed them for that. Felt like they were more money oriented instead of dog oriented.

We took our dog to Southridge for a little over 12 years and cannot recommend them enough. Recently, we were faced with the difficult decision to put him down. I cannot express our gratitude for the entire staff during the duration of that time. They gave us options and offered us their honest opinions. When the time came, they made everything so special for us and it was the most peaceful experience. If and when the time comes to have another fur baby, we will absolutely be back ❤️ We are forever grateful for all the care we received!

I know this is a long post but if you consider your pet as your own child like me, please bear with me. I have a golden retriever who is currently 13 years old. I got him when he was 10 weeks old in Canada. He has been with me through my life's ups and downs. He moved to Michigan with me in 2013 and then to Nebraska in 2017. If I had the chance, I took him "everywhere" with me. I have two kids now, and they call him their brother because I still consider him my first born. When we moved to Nebraska in 2017, we visited many veterinarians because I wanted the best for my son. After meeting with Dr. Hanson at the SRAC, I decided they were the best fit. I never knew it was the best decision I could make for him. Dr. Hanson and all the other doctors who took care of my boy were always helpful, kind, informative, and not out there to take your money. They sincerely care and value your family members and their well-being—as well as yours. My baby scared us this past month (and I also went through another stressful event not long before that so think about my emotional turmoil.) Unfortunately, I was out of the country, so trying to keep it together was tough. From the email communication to the phone calls, my endless questions and requests, they always made themselves available and kept my sanity intact and comforted me. Thankfully, my boy recovered nicely, and what we thought was cancer was not cancer, and he will live longer than we initially thought. I wanted to tell you my story because, to this day, since 2017, I have not had any negative interactions with them or had any issues. The diagnoses, medicine, care, and suggestions they provided have always been on point. If you want excellent care, informed and knowledgeable doctors, and respect for your pets and yourselves, choose South Ridge Animal Clinic.

They were able to help at short notice. They were kind and thorough with both us and our Labradoodle. I would recommend them to anyone. It wasn't cheap but what is these days. We feel very confident with their care.

I was visiting the area and my dog injured himself at the dog park. The people at South Ridge Animal Clinic were so wonderful! A real human answered my phone call. They gave me a same-day appointment. Every vet tech and the vet there was SO FRIENDLY and competent. They were responsive to my concerns, took GREAT CARE of my little guy, and they told me the price of each procedure as they presented it without me having to ask. It’s a small thing, but it conveyed to me that they understand times are hard for a lot of people and are sensitive to that. My total bill was entirely fair and (fortunately) affordable for me. However, I felt like the staff here would not have judged me one bit if I had needed to make different choices about my dog’s care to stay within my financial limits. That is such a refreshing feeling after encountering several other vet clinics who take advantage of people in my position by charging an hefty extra fee for a same-day “urgent care” appointments and running up your bill with a lot of unnecessary procedures, tests, and supplements. Overall, 10/10 A++ I wish I lived in Lincoln so these guys could be my regular vet office! :)
