How to Save Money at Polaris Veterinary Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Took my dog in today because she has been sick the past few days and unable to eat. I informed the vet that she hasn’t been able to hold down water and doesn’t want to eat. The vet then had her do an X-ray and a blood test to ensure that there wasn’t anything major wrong with her. Once he found that there were no abnormalities he gave her medicine for nausea. I informed him that she would not eat but he didn’t recommend anything for that and told me to give her the medicine and if it doesn’t help to bring her back in a few days. After forcing the medicine down my dog’s throat and her throwing up multiple times, I called the vet and informed them that she cannot keep the medicine down. They had me come in and they gave the medicine to her and told me to wait 15 minutes to ensure that she wouldn’t throw it up. The whole time being extremely rude that I asked why didn’t they do this the first time I was there and if there was any other medication that could be given. After waiting 15 minutes, I was charged another 30 dollars for having them give her the oral medication(shoving it down her throat like I didn’t do that already) which was an addition to the 400+ dollars that I had already spend on my visit earlier that day. Once I got my dog into the car and left (knowing that I would never go back to Polaris) she ended up vomiting again about 5 minutes after leaving. So much for the 15 minutes and the 30 additional dollars. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO POLARIS. Rudest employees I’ve ever met. The original post was made on Friday. It is now Monday, Harper passed this afternoon. Not sure why, we gave her the antibiotics prescribed but obviously didn’t work. This place has lost my faith and my hope for good veterinarians. Harper was just nearing her 5th birthday.

It's a bit of a drive but totally worth it! My dog was really sick, had x-rays, IV fluids, & spent the night. Cost me over $100 LESS than the emergency vet weekend call for just blood work! We have been taking our dog here since they opened & when they were in Bethany. Great office staff, always able to get us in! Treats our dogs like their own! Love this office!! Not enough stars!!

Dr. Martinez is amazing! I love Polaris and both of my dogs have been with them since puppies! Our oldest mastiff is now elderly and Dr. Martinez gave me all the "real" information I needed to include preparing me for the reality of my fur babies age, financials and medical condition. Not only did she give sound advice she also followed up with two phone calls ensuring my fur baby was doing OK. I LOVE POLARIS and will never take my babies anywhere else!

A trusted veterinarian to my family personally for 20 years. Dr. Lionberger has been there every step of the way caring for my pets from pups to their senior years. It can be emotional watching your pet age and go through a lot of life changes and Polaris has comforted all of my concerns. The staff is welcoming, helpful, and personable as well.
