How to Save Money at Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

You know I really thought Dr. Stih was pretty good until now. Took my dog in for parvo Thursday, mentioned it to him, he blow me off and only tested him for worms. So, it turns out he did have them, so Stih gives me meds, my dog poops a stream off blood, parvo, so I call the next day about it , Stih tells me it's a reaction to the meds, told him I knew it was parvo, even sent him stool samples on three qtips, he never tested them, but told my fiance there was no parvo found. My dog died. So if you value your pets life, do your research. On top of everything the man has no compassion for people or there pets and he's a liar. We went to see Dr. Stih on Monday to see if he would return my money for the last visit since the meds he gave Smoke didn't help , " No, I can't do that", Is what he told us with no sympathy at all.

Great customer service and treatment. This is where I am bringing my animals from now on The will see your pet even if they are not an established patient. No appointments though (except for scheduled procedures). All you have to do is sign in and wait (get there early as they fill up quickly). The cost was less than what I expected/less than what was my regular vet charged.

I took my pet dog and cat to stih, recommended my mom to his facility.my dog was up to date on shots, Smoke..my dog got sick on May 31st 2018 took him to vet.my boyfriend described symptoms of parvo he overlooked that took worm test charged me for visit plus medication for worms, next morning June 1st 2018 Smoke squirted out blood. My friend called vet back, he told me bring sample by office..I rushed the ziplocked q tips up there with blood..now he can't find my dog records sends me home to get dog records.by the time I get back he tells me they found the records..Sith says there was no trace of parvo from q tips.and gives me advice on getting my dog injected with Gatorade and water with his medicine he prescribed ..I trusted his word as a vet.but dog got worse on June 2. 2018 we called all of his listed numbers..when he finally answered.. Smoke was dead..when I went to his office this morning of why he denied my dog a parvo test..He lied straight in my face..and told me and my boyfriend he offered hospitilization.. He said he offered us several options.he lied as if he knew I was recording.he kept telling saying my dog didn't have parvo..charged me 68 dollars..for worm treatment..I could've let my Dog die at home for free..since he brushed the symptoms off.I started going to him because he was cheaper than the other vet in whiteville..I guess you pay cheap.. you get cheap..I learned a lesson..get a second vet opinion..I got my cat record Smoke record and my mom dog records and I see where he altered Smoke records and said I denied.. further testing another lie..to prevent further problems.I will let God deal with him.and that's the end from my family..like I told him" God don't like Ugly." Rip Smoke😍

Called at 8:00 am and explained to the gentleman that I had a sick cat, was new to the area and needed to be seen today. The gentleman said to bring him after 1:30 no appt needed. I drive 1hr and 40 minutes to pick up my cat at home and bring him back to Whiteville. I go in and the lady tells me they can’t see him because it’s too late to do a work up when I got there at 1:30 like they told me. Definitely would not recommend this Vet. Very unprofessional and uncaring group.
