How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

From the moment I walk up to the counter until the time I am checking out and leaving, everyone I talk to is friendly, happy to see us and makes me feel like family! I leave knowing the people there are treating my pets like their own. The front desk, technicians and doctor all go above and beyond and I am very thankful for that. Having a wellness plan makes getting yearly teeth cleaning for my dog (a Yorkie which is a Breed known for problem teeth so I am careful to take extra care of them) super easy and comfortable. It also makes it so that no matter what the worry, I never have to hesitate to get him in to be seen. The exam is already paid for in my plan no matter how many times I go. ( Not saying I'm a crazy dog & cat Mom or anything). Thank you to all the Banfield staff for the excellent care you give my family, for legged it two. Also, thank you for helping me keep up on when vaccines and shots etc are due. I would forever forget without you.

This is a fantastic Veterinary team. Doctor Klink really helped with Star's rotten tooth and periodontal disease. He got her on a course of antibiotics before her oral cleaning with anesthesia. Her breath smells amazing now. She's more active and is eating better. They gave me the tooth that was going to fall out. We avoided a tooth infection by getting her proper cleaning. Small dogs especially rescue dogs like Star typically have bad teeth and gums. We rescued her at 8 years old we believe from the humane society of North wilkesboro. This was through an app called adopt a pet. The foster mother did not want her to be euthanized at the shelter. We did the adoption at PetSmart in North wilkesboro, North Carolina. Star has PTSD from her former life and having to go to a pet kill shelter. If there weren't good people out there. We wouldn't have our baby love. Everybody who loves animals should consider this veterinarian. Thank you so much and mahalo!

We LOVE the Wesley Chapel Banfield Pet Hospital!!! Oh my goodness . . . we've been with them since they opened this practice, and I MUST say, we've NEVER been disappointed with the services there. The front desk experience makes my "reluctant" pooch actually excited to go! Katie, Leah, Elizabeth, and the rest of those guys, make a GREAT first impression, and always make us feel like WE are their favorites . . . yet I'm pretty sure they make EVERYONE feel that way. Sandy, the practice manager and superhero vet tech is AMAZING. I tell my dog we're going to go see Sandy, and immediately he gets excited about going to get his anal glands expressed (well, maybe not excited about the anal gland part)! We love Dr. Hertel who not only professional and knowledgeable, but caring and kind! All the doctors there that we've seen when Dr. Hertel was not available were the same. I ONLY wish they would all move to Texas at our new Banfield Pet Hospital. I've offered to help them all find homes there . . . but . . .

My daughter found an abandoned kitten near where she works in Blakeney. Took the kitten to Leah and she was wonderful and very caring to ensure the little guy was taken care of

Willow was so sweet, Katie, Kaia, the OM! Was hesitant, but quickly got over my fears! Dr. K was wonderful! They care about the fur parent and the fur baby! Best vet we have seen around these parts. (MIL is a retired vet, so standards were high) Would travel to see this group of fur loving and caring individuals!
