How to Save Money at Heritage Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Bella has been here since she was 8 weeks old and is now 13. From day one, Dr Tran, Judy and her team have been absolutely incredible and have given her the best care. From checkups to surgeries they have been fantastic and treated Bella like the queen she is…

A simple pick up turned into a half hour wait while ten other people were checked in even though we were first at the door when it opened. The staff seems to start working when the doors open instead of maybe 15 minutes before to make sure computer and credit cards machines work. That was our first wait for 10 minus. Then they brought out the wrong dog. Then after ten other customers were checked in, we got our pets. It took about 30 minutes for a simple pick up. If our vet still offered boarding, we would still be going there. We will be shopping around for other options.

I cannot say enough amazing things about Heritage Animal Hospital. My family and I have been seeing Dr. Tran for about 13 years - since I was 12 years old - and she is by far the BEST veterinarian in the entire county. We first saw her for our guinea pigs, then in 2014 we brought her our new kittens. They're almost 8 years old now, and now I am 25 years old and have my own kitten that goes to Heritage! I'm don't trust any medical professional more than Dr. Tran. She has been amazing from the beginning! The veterinary technicians are so kind, patient, and understanding. I have been having issues with my cat Juju lately and probably have called the office 15 times or so, and they always take the time to talk to me and give me an accurate and thorough answer. No matter how busy they are, they always make time to receive in depth information and give great notes to take home with information on every body system, visit-specific notes, and a body score. I wouldn't recommend any other veterinary office in the area. Heritage gives the absolute best care for your animals that you could get! Thank you to all the techs and doctors!

My wife and I have taken our pets to this vet for 9 years now. Even though we now live an hour away, we still bring our pets here. They treat our pets with love and take exceptional care of them. When we have taken our pets in for things other than the routine, they have given follow up calls to make sure things are getting better. They do not have pushy sales tactics either. They give their recommendations, tell you the cost and allow you to make an informed decision about what is best for you and your pet.

I really had high hopes for this place, until I was clearly overcharged I had asked the staff what they would charge before our visit. Just yearly shots and routine examine. On going ear infection that never goes away. $1,000.00 later. They were nickel and dimming us for 2 hours. $200 extra per dog than what they quoted me! They tried to make it right with a recheck for an ear infection. Hahaha They obviously have to pay for the new building. They need a new staff too.
