How to Save Money at Mitchell Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Great staff, great experience. We were out of state from Florida and needed some help with our 3 month old Golden Retriever.. she was have some tummy issues. Thankfully Dr. Georgeou and her team were able to see us in such a timely manner… and were so kind enough to call me back with an even earlier appt time. I would highly recommend them, and anyone that is not local and on vacation this is a great place that is very welcoming, knowledgeable and caring.

Mitchell Veterinary Clinic has the most amazing veterinary staff! I always feel as if my pets and I are the most important thing, during our time with them. If you want a doctor that takes time with you and your pets, then this is the place to be! The staff spends an incredible amount of time with you and then...they spend more time with you! I have never been to a doctor that emphasized the time of their visits, much less, one that did not rush thru any part of your appointment. Telephone calls to wellness exams are given the time they need to impart information, ask questions, give medical advice and treatment, place orders, etc., but most importantly, time is given freely to get to know you and your pet family. It is truly an endearing quality and gives them a chance to get to know you personally. My pets are treated with the utmost care and professionalism. I always think of them as people who really care about keeping me and my pet family together, for as long as possible. My pets are never upset to visit with them and are never scared to go to the vet. They truly make an effort to put all of us at ease. They are always trying to be on your pets level. Pets that are bigger and seated on floor, will get a staff member that stays on the floor as well. High costs of pet care can also be a concern. The staff will help provide options to curb those costs and make it possible to always give your pets the best care available! I have personally been a client of Mitchell Veterinary Clinic for over 20 years. I never want to take my pets anywhere else. I can say from experience that there has been a steady theme that makes my vet the absolute "cat's meow! They really believe in the quality of the care they administer to their pets! I feel so fortunate to be a part of Mitchell Veterinary Clinic's family! If this review did not convince you to choose this vet, then stop by...Dr Georgeou and her staff will have you won over in seconds!

They've been wonderful and are always happy to see our fur family members even though they are sick when we go there. My Clarence (his six month old pic is my picture on my Google "bubble") was very sick yesterday, we were able to get in in the afternoon. The nurse (Vet tech) was so awesome with Clarence (and Dr. Kelly is great too) made him feel better and when he was getting fluids Clarence was very wiggly and happy, wanting to give everyone loves ❤️. He did sleep the rest of the day and overnight, but the brief encounter with them helped him feel much better while we were there. Woof woof 🐾🐾!! Clarence gives you 5 stars too!

I don't like to leave negative reviews but in all fairness I gave them an opportunity to make amends. This place is nice and clean and everyone is very friendly and eager to help. The doctor was nice and seemed genuinely friendly. I went to this vet in the first place because the reviews were good. I called them to inquire about the cost of the rabies vaccine for my pup. I was quoted approx $75 (can't recall exactly). The reason I called is because I needed to know the cost since I haven't worked in a few months. When I got there everything went well and he got his shot. Came time to pay I was handed a $140 bill! I asked why more than quoted and was told its because of the doctor's consultation. What if I didn't have enough?? I understand the doctor charges for the visit BUT when I called I should have been informed. I called for the cost and was not given exact price. $75 is already a hefty price for a rabies shot. oh well I said...live and learn. Anyway, not even 10 minutes had passed since I left I started to receive text messages and calls from some companies about pet insurance, everyday! Ended up having to block several numbers to make it end. Fast forward a couple of months, I went there again (stupid me) to get him some deworming pills. We weighed him and the girl went and got his pills. $104! I asked why so much? "Well, we switched to this better brand (Drontal) and he is a big dog and needs a bigger dose". So I went home thinking I need to find a different solution. There's no way I will spend $104 every 5-6 weeks on a dewormer. Looked online and most stores were selling the EXACT brand and dosage for $50-$59 dollars. These were not discount online retailers but brick and mortar stores such as Petco.(which had auto monthly ship price at $43) I understand they have a bigger buying power not half price. I prefer to support local retailers and will pay slightly more for a service but not double! So I called them, maybe there was a mistake? She told me they buy 30 pills $400, thats $13.33 per pill and then sold me 3 for $104!!) I was given the run around and in the end was promised a call from the doctor. I waited 5 days and no call. I guess price gouging and then losing a customer over $50 is how they choose to do business. you want to go there? Get upfront pricing before you decide. I'll take my business to an honest vet.
