How to Save Money at Points East Veterinary Specialty Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Points east is the very best place. I would take my dog here on any occasion. Dr. Wagner, and Dr. Smith along with the various techs and icu nurses truly saved my dogs life. As soon we got there we were greeted and welcomed with open arms in trying to help our boy. We had 0 wait for biscuit to be seen. They took him back and immediately started trying to figure out what was wrong. They were very helpful and they have an excellent communication system. We were never worried about what was happening or if biscuit was okay. Unfortunately he did need emergency surgery to save his life. And that’s just what they did, save his life. When we were able to go pick him up and take him home he didn’t even wanna leave! He tried to go right back inside. That warmed our hearts to know they took amazing care of our boy. We could never say thank you enough to Points East and their absolutely amazing staff. Please take your animal here if you have any issues, they will do anything and everything in their power to help. I wish I could give them 10 stars!

I had a devastating night last night. I lost my baby girl Macie. She was 14 years old and I had her since she was 6 weeks old. She was the love of my life....my best friend. When I brought her into the emergency room, they acted quickly and gave her the best care humanly possible. I will never forget the kindness they showed me and my baby girl. God bless you all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart

My mothers dog Honey Bun was very very sick, they kept her for a couple of days. They took such good care of her and figured what was going on. She is now scheduled to have surgery because of a parathyroid tumor. The doctors and staff were very friendly and informative The Doctors called me every morning with an update on Honey Bun. That truly meant a lot and put my mind at ease. I would highly recommend Point East Veterinary Hospital. Thanks for what you do for all the animals. Amy

There aren’t enough kind words to describe this vet service. I had a pet emergency that didn’t end well and they gave me as much time as needed with my beautiful Frankie cat. I tear up reliving the day but it was beautiful to my broken heart. Since that my mothers 18 year old chihuahua was near the end of her life and suggested to my mother she needed to go here. I wasn’t able to go along but her response to me was they were everything and more than I had described. It’s a wonderful place . Thanks again girls ❤️

Where do I even begin? This emergency vet and everyone who works there have been incredible. I specifically want to send a shoutout to Doctors Wagner, Nystrom, and Rouillard. I’m certain there’s been others who have taken part in my dogs’ care, but these are the ones I’ve interacted with the most. In the last two weeks, they’ve treated both of my dogs, Leia and Gucci. Leia passed away, but they did everything they could for her. She was 17 and had thyroid cancer, and they were so kind, honest, and compassionate about her. They were so respectful and gentle about delivering the news that Leia was at the end of her life. Dr. Wagner even sent a very thoughtful card. Leia’s little sister, Gucci, is currently in their hospital, recently diagnosed with diabetes, on top of mourning the loss of her big sister, Leia. They have been so attentive and communicative about my Gucci girl. From the front desk staff to the vets and everyone in between, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are all wonderful, caring people who have been nothing but kind during a painful loss and difficult diagnosis. I am forever grateful.
