How to Save Money at Boulevard Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff here is amazing; Such empathetic and caring people I've ever come across in a long time. This is the only place that I can comfortably say that I can trust my pets with 110%. The prices are also super reasonable and they are also very transparent and forthcoming with any information that pertains to your pet. I love how the communicate with you and tell you everything you need to know on how to care for your pet before, during and after any kind of procedure that is done. They have single handily put my mind at ease with my pets if I think there's something going on. They're all so very understanding if you can't afford a certain thing and they can find you alternatives. We definitely need more people that are as compassionate as they are for the well-being of your beloved fur babies. These people are truly a blessing. And I give a huge shout out to Dr. Grant Please stay amazing. You truly are a wonderful person.

I took my sweet cat Taz for an appointment last Friday September 9/29/23. He had lost weight over past 2 weeks. But he was still eating and drinking some. We thought maybe he had a parasite or something. Turns out it was way worse. The vet said excessive abdominal fluid found per x-ray. And probably was a liver tumor . My cat was 14 years old and I didn't want to put him through surgery when it was very likely he wouldn't recover. I had to make the very difficult decision to put him to sleep. It broke my heart. He was my family and friend for a very long time. The staff were very compassionate and did everything possible to care for Taz, to allow him a peaceful passing. With their kindness and compassion they also helped ease my pain and grief. You can trust Boulevard Animal Hospital to take care of your furry family members too.

I have known Dr. Dixon most of my life. He has taken care of plenty of dogs and my horses. He went above and beyond for my horse Xena. He did everything possible to help us an so many suggestions. Sadly even the amazing Dr.Dixon couldn’t fix our girl. She was believed to have had cancer and he told us it was time when we knew deep down it was time too. He came out on a Sunday afternoon and put her down for us so she would not suffer till Monday. I will always recommend Dr Dixon to anyone who ask. I’m forever thankful for him and the care he always shows our animals. The next horse I get he will be also be it’s vet. Thank you Dr Dixon your an amazing vet and even more caring human.

This practice is popular for a reason; they take great care of your animal friends. Yes it is walk-in only, so be prepared; but you will get top notch service for an honest price.

The Doctors and staff were very compassionate and thoughtful. I came from the Charlotte area to find a cheaper solution for surgery for my dog Gracie. Unfortunately my sweet girl was not well enough for the surgery and crossed the rainbow bridge, they were such great people. Thanks again to Dr. Martin and staff for trying to do everything possible for my little girl. I am seriously considering making the drive to make them my regular vet.
