How to Save Money at Companion Animal Veterinary Services, Inc.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have been using Companion Animal Veterinary Service for a couple of years now and this review is long overdue. We are thrilled with the amount of detail and information we receive from Dr. Klatt every time she comes. We have a senior cat who gets extremely stressed when going for a car ride so having the vet come to our home is perfect. If you are in the market for a vet who will come to you as well as doing surgeries at their home (we had dental work done on our cat) then look no further. I contacted Teresa Klatt after spending hours waiting at a local Kernersville Veterinary office to get my 2 cat's nails trimmed. One of my cats did not like the environment and for some reason was suddenly traumatized when they took him in. I realized this was not only not good for my pets but consumed my time for hours waiting on a 10 minute nail trim, but I was too chicken to do it myself, Lol A friend recommended Dr. Klatt. Dr. Klatt set up an appointment for the next week and calmly clipped both my cats nails in no time. She has taken over all of their care and we couldn't be happier. I recently got a new puppy and of course, I called Dr. Klatt. An appointment was set and Dr. Klatt arrived. My furr babies now have a family doctor that I trust to give them the care they deserve all in the comfort of their home. If you have a pet that is anxious or you just don't like waiting hours in the office or your car, give Dr. Klatt a call, my babies love her and no more anxiety!

Dr. Klatt is wonderful! Highly recommend! Both of our cats immediately took to her; she is professional, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Only wish we would have found her years ago! Very blessed to have her care for our fur babies.

Do not know what I would do without Dr.Klatt! Several years ago I was searching for a mobile Vet for my elderly American Pit who was getting arthritic, it was becoming hard to load him in the car as he was a very big boy weighting over 100lbs. I took a chance and called Dr. Klatt and I immediately knew she was going to be great for us! She was so caring and compassionate With Flex as well as my self. We got him on meds that really helped his mobility and comfort and also got his seizures controlled.I’m 100% positive her help and care gave me several more good years with him! He ended up with cancer and she assured me I would know when the time came to let him go. As his illness was progressing we talked about my wishes for his passing to be at home in my bed where he had always slept with just the 2 of us at his side. It was a difficult decision to make but she was right I knew when it was time to tell my best friend good by. He very peacefully went to sleep with me loving on him. Dr Klatt stayed until I was ok and her compassion will always be appreciated. Now I have a new friend he is a 11 mt old American Pit also. Having a puppy has been a challenge after 13 yrs with one well behaved boy! Diesel is a wild man and Dr Klatt will be with me as he and I begin the journey of the Life of Diesel which has so far not been a dull moment as he counter surfs and frequently gets into any thing he can find the latest has been chocolate candy. Dr Klatt told me what to do and he is fine. She neutered Diesel last week and there is no one I would trust as I do Dr Klatt with my boy! If you are looking for a mobile Vet she is the one!!!!
