How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Arrived surgery date for family pet and received conflicting information that differed from what surgeon initially said. We agreed to move forward that day and left pet in Banfield Rocky Mount care. Received call short while later, no surgery. Different surgeon did not want to proceed. Felt he needed back up and was now recommending initial procedures. Quite a bit of confusion on Banfield part and lacked communication. They could have called bc they knew we were a distance away and they should be aware of their own staffing issues. Dr. Fig was provider we first met with and who explained what needed to be done. Day of surgery, Dr. Fig out of town. We believe Dr. Fig was correct in her assessment. We were ready to move forward and felt comfortable with plan. Day of surgery is when confusion set in, from med assistant behind counter to the provider. Very dissatisfied and disappointed with service. We obtained pet's med records from Banfield and have appointment with another surgeon, same day of Banfield scheduled procedure. i

Too potential customers.......I a senior citizen on a fixed income signed up for a year of service for my pup. Too my surprise after the year was up......monies were still being taken out of my account. When I called about this......I was told it would cost me 500.00+ dollars to get out of this so call ONE YEAR agreement. I would strongly suggest you find a place that REALLY cares about your pet........not the almighty dollar. There's something about this that is unethical. I don't know what the outcome will be. Just don't judge people that are homeless with their pet. Good luck finding services for your pet that doesn't hold your bank account hostage. God help me. Prayers are excepted

My lab got sick yesterday and when I called, the technician I spoke with was very helpful about helping me determine if I should bring my lab in or not. She was able to squeeze me in to their already busy day and when I got there they were super nice and friendly to both my dog and me. The technician who slabd vet who treated my dog with also nice and helpful with making sure he got the care he needed.

This is my first time at the Rocky Mount Banfield and it was a wonderful experience!! When I dropped my baby off the tech that greeted him so warmly!! It put me right at ease. She literally greeted him the same way I greet him when I come home. I can tell they took great care of him by the way he acted when I picked him up. He was his normal energetic self! They even surprised me with some hilariously adorable pix of him! Overall a really great experience! * update. Had to take my dog in for a wound, and he was SO EXCITED to come here. Lol he got out the car and ran to the door as if he was going to the dog park. Then he kept trying to follow the doctor to the back. So I think it’s safe to say he was treated really well. So again I would HIGHLY recommend you bring your pup here*

Very good place to take your furry friends. You can get on the payment plan that fits your budget. Most of us can’t dish out big bucks every time we need a vet.
