How to Save Money at Reidsville Veterinary Hospital, Inc.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff are very friendly and professional. They make it a positive experience every time Archie (Parson Russell) and I come to see them. Easy to set up appointments and always taken care of in a timely manner. I highly recommend this facility.

All in all, it was a decent experience being at this hospital. What I wasn’t a fan of was - The time spent inside of the hospital was a lot longer than expected. The tech who put us in the exam room was kind, and he did check up on us once through the waiting process. But the time spent with the doctor herself was very short and felt a little rushed. The pricing was a bit high, but they are a specialty hospital, so I figured that would be the case. The other part I didn’t like, it wasn’t a personable experience at all. It was almost like it was an ER visit and I’d never see these people again. I’ve been to a lot of different animal clinics and hospitals over the past 16 years, we have fought many disease and cancer battles with our last pack of dogs. I was expecting a family feeling, a connection being built that could last years as our new dogs age. But that wasn’t the case. No one touched my dog in front of me, talked to him, or even greeted him. He was taken away from me for the entire exam, which was also a new experience. The exam and X-rays were actually the quickest thing about the visit. Then, today, I sent an email with some follow up concerns about meds he was prescribed. Normally, the doctor who I am emailing replies back to answer my questions, but she did not. It was a tech who responded back. And it was a super simple email, so it really wouldn’t have taken the doctor much time to type it. I get the veterinarians are busy these days, but forming a bond and connection with your patients and their owners is super important . Especially when they plan on continuing to come back for follow up appointments and treatments. It was like it was a follow the book, go through the motions type visit, not a down to earth, human to human visit to talk about what’s going on the with dog and what will be done. Again, it wasn’t a horrible experience, I’ve been to vets where I never went back again after because of how horrible the visit went. The doctor was knowledgeable and decently kind. But it all felt impersonal. We go back in two weeks. I hope the experience is a little different next time, as this hospital has a lot to offer. I have 5 dogs in total, I need a place I can trust and feel comfortable at to bring them all to. Not sure if that will be the case moving forward, but all I can do is hope.

We just had our first visit. It was an emergency visit for an older cat. It was worth the drive out to Reidsville. All of the staff was great: front desk, vet techs, and the doctor. Clean facility. Easy to find. And the icing on the cake was that I paid about 1/2 of what I expected based on visits to emergency vets in the past. If you have the cane to select this facility as your regular vet, I would highly recommend that you do so.

Ezra had a dental cleaning. The technician kept me informed every step of the procedure. I felt like she was well cared for while she was there. They even called the day after to see how she was doing!

Our adult cat, Sirius, either from a dog or coyote attack, had a puncture wound and dislocated left rear hip this past Sunday night. First thing Monday, the wonderful staff, vet techs, and veterinarians were on the case. Both Sirius and my husband and I were treated with exceptional kindness, compassion, and respect. Sirius’s hip joint was put back into place, he was given proper meds to treat his ailments, he spent the night, and in a hip sling along with pain meds was sent home the following day. Sirius, being the active little man that he is, managed a day later to slip out of his sling. Within 10 minutes of my panicked phone call to Reidsville Veterinary Hospital, Sirius was in a treatment room and taken back for an X-ray. His hip was blessedly still in place. He was sent back home thirty minutes later, sedated and with subcutaneous fluid to aid in his digestive constitution, and is resting calmly in his crate, with the explicit understanding that should I need to bring Sirius back in before his one-week follow up that I bring him right in for further evaluation and treatment. This veterinary clinic is, in my 50 years of pet ownership, one of the best pet hospitals I have been to, and do not hesitate to recommend their services.
