How to Save Money at Quail Corners Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Quail Corners Animal Hospital is wonderful! I found them after having a not so great experience with another vet. Sadly my dog, Harry got Kennel cough for a few months and the entire staff was super understanding and patient with me through the process. They were so great with my dog Harry!! I'm so grateful to have found this Vet for future needs for my dog. I also bought one of their pet plans to help cover the costs of the last several vet visits. Totally worth it!! Super grateful to have found Quail Corners Animal Hospital for vet care for my dog, Harry.

I had to take my cat here for a ER visit after she knocked out a window screen and fell out of the window. Every employee I interacted with was very kind and super helpful!! She saw Dr. Strickland who I only got to speak to on the phone but she was super sweet and insightful. They called me and updated multiple times throughout the visit as it was curbside and we were out within a hour / hour and half, which from previously working at ER vet was awesome as I was prepared to be there for 3-4 hours as she was stable and no obvious signs of anything extremely emergent but I wanted to take her to ensure nothing possibly neurotic or to her jaw had occurred during her fall. From previously different vet hospitals I have taken both my cats to, I have not had pleasant experiences as the doctors have made me feel guilty and shamed me about the way my cats can behave at the vet. They’re both very attached me and don’t like being handled by strangers and quick to get in to “turtle shell” positions which makes it hard to examine them (which from my experience at a vet is most cats) but this vet did not do any of that or mentioned anything negative about my cats anxious vet behavior which made this experience even more pleasant and easier for me to handle. When it comes to the next time my cats are needing an regular vet visit - I’ll likely try to take them here from how well they handled and spoke to me during an ER visit. :) Piper is now doing great since her fall and back to her normal, mischievous, outspoken self the very next day. EDIT: I would like to add that I saw negative reviews in regards to pricing at this vet. A few months ago I had taken my other cat for a regular vet appointment at a different local vet hospital and for that regular visit + a gabapentin prescription cost me more than Pipers ER visit and two prescription (one which was gabapentin as well) here. I do truly believe the pricing at this vet is fair and reasonable based on my ER visit.

My cat is quite standoffish, but she immediately took to Dr. Edwards. The staff treated her with loving care and put all my fears to rest. The practice is spotless and very well maintained. Overall a great experience!

I’m a new patient with Quail Corners but the entire staff has been better than any clinic I’ve taken my kitties to prior! Dr. Morgan has been seeing my older kitty Bane for the last few weeks and his demeanor with her is like night and day. She does a great job explaining procedures and illnesses to clients. Likewise, their prices are EXTREMELY competitive. Great staff, wonderful reception, and perfect if you have a cat who is sensitive in clinics as it is split between cats and dogs!

We’ve only been once for our cat’s first wellness visit, but during that short period we were very impressed. They were levelheaded and lighthearted in handling our kitty, and made numerous helpful suggestions and provided affordable options for ongoing health maintenance. The office is clean and welcoming, vets are professional and sweet.
