How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital Raleigh

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Jezebel was brought in emergent and all of the staff saved her life. She had escaped from the house and lived outdoors for 6 weeks. She was evacuated and lethargic upon arrival and by the next day had a significant turnaround. I am so appreciative of the excellent care she received! You are all awesome 👏

My working German shepherd severed a tendon on a hike. After a botched surgery at a local Pet ER we were referred to Blue Pearl by our primary to hopefully amend the injury. Upon a consult it was decided the best course of action was to amputate her toe as the tendon was too short to repair at this point. Surgery was scheduled quickly and went smoothly. The vet and vet assistant were beyond helpful and eased any worries I had. I felt comfortable and that they actually knew what was going on and was realistic about expectations. We are 6 weeks in post-op and my dog is easing her way back into work with ZERO discomfort. While I know we’re not out of the woods yet as far as her recovery and what that will look like in her career, but I can’t help to feel so relieved that she is no longer in constant pain. Thank you to the team at Blue Pearl! I appreciate you guys so much!

I called Saturday afternoon after having an accident with my yorkie ( cookie ) causing her back legs to give in, she couldn’t walk on them, and they were painful for her it was very scary for all of us, but let me start with the receptionist was super understanding and kind she answered my questions and let me know that I can bring my pup in which I did a little bit after. It was storming pretty bad so we took a bit longer to arrive than we expected, but the receptionist called me and asked if we were okay due to the storm and I thought that was super sweet!! Once we arrived they knew who we were and took my pup back pretty quick! The vet let me know of the possibilities of what we were dealing with and she explained everything very well while also answering all of our questions! They examined her for multiple things and for any spinal injury or fractures which thankfully she didn’t have like I thought she did. They also gave her meds and a few other things to help her and to with the pain while also telling me to keep her from doing much movement to prevent her from getting hurt further which was very understandable. Everyone here was super nice and sympathetic, I really do appreciate all of you! Cookie is able to move and walk on her back legs now although I’m still restricting her from doing lots of movement, but so far it’s looking like she’ll be okay and will recover well! Thank you to everyone here, we had a great experience here and I really do appreciate the help! It’s obvious that they care about and love animals so if anyone ever needs to bring their pet in and is wondering if this is the right place let me tell you that it is!! Your pet will be taken great care of and they will answer all your questions and help you!

I cannot thank BluePearl Animal Hospital enough for saving my dog’s life! They are truly an amazing 24-hour emergency animal hospital. From the moment we arrived, the staff was kind, attentive, and professional. They acted incredibly fast, which is exactly what you need in an emergency. Within minutes, they diagnosed the issue and clearly explained the treatment plan. I especially appreciated how communicative they were throughout the entire process—keeping me updated every step of the way and answering all of my questions with patience and compassion. Not only did they provide exceptional care for my dog, but they also made me feel supported during such a stressful time. Their efficiency, expertise, and dedication to both pets and their owners are unmatched. I hope I never face another pet emergency, but if I do, I know BluePearl is where I’ll turn. Thank you for everything you do!

On the Friday night (because this is always when you have a pet emergency!) that I had a cat with a possible obstruction, and I called Blue Pearl and was able to bring my guy right over. They took him in right away and about 15 minutes later about 6 other vehicles came in with emergencies. Blue Pearl was doing curbside due to their floors being replaced in the front so we were all parking in the back. It was at this time that there was a torrential downpour. Despite the rain and so many emergencies all at once everyone was so nice and kind. Dr. Schuber checked in with me several times and was very thorough with explaining what was going on with my guy. The good news is that there was no obstruction! The vet tech that helped me was so nice to talk to and very kind. My experience was very positive, albeit, very expensive, but my guy is back home and comfortable and so worth it.
