How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Great hospital with amazing doctors. P.S. Reading other reviews made me a bit sad. Guys, this is an EMERGENCY hospital. Of course it's going to be more expensive than the regular vet clinic. And of course you'll have to wait longer if there are other patients who need immediate attention. When I called to ask if we can bring our dog who presumably broke her toe for an x-ray, the lady who was on the phone with me immediately gave me all the necessary info and made sure I know that the price is going to be higher than in the regular clinic. Also, a nurse in the hospital gave me an option to make an x-ray in our regular vet's office because in their clinic it's going to cost more – I decided not to wait and perform everything in BluePearl, but I can say for sure that doctors and nurses try their best to give you multiple options and save your money, if it's possible. And yes, making an x-ray and splinting my dog's toe took more time than we expected, but this was due to our dog being in distress and doctor Summer Wheeler spend a ton of time to sedate her. And later, they had an emergency patient who needed immediate attention, while my dog could wait. I'd love to see this kind of attitude in case if next time MY dog needs immediate attention. Like it or not, they act in their furry patients' needs, and do it wonderful. I'm really glad we were able to get treatment in BluePearl. Say hi to Dr.Summer and a nurse who initially examined us, and a receptionist who was working late shift and was so sweet and nice. Wookie is doing great :)

I had to take my baby here after emergency surgery at the vet. Her vet thought she 50/50 chance needed a blood transfusion… Thankfully her numbers were coming up on their own. The Dr who cared for her was honest, explained everything well, and thankfully was just trying to make money. From the gentleman at the front desk, the tech and the veterinary it was the best experience and highly recommend!

Diesel, my darling dog, ate part of a wooden spoon. Not knowing how big the pieces he ingested were, I took him to Blue Pearl Pet Emergency Hospital in Raleigh. They induced vomiting and we discovered he thankfully chewed the spoon into small pieces. So after 2 upchucks, we felt the majority if the spoon came up. Next day he ate 6 small meals and I checked to make sure there was no blood in his urine or stools. I had been to Blue Pearl previously and felt confident in their doctors and staff. If you have a pet emergency , do not hesitate to go to Blue Pearl! They are great!!

I wanted to leave a review for this amazing emergency hospital. They made the toughest day for our family bearable . On the morning of 6/13, our greyhound Merl had unfortunately severely broken his leg in our backyard. This was also my daughter’s HS graduation. It will be something we will never forget b/c she stood there in her cap & gown as we helped Merl cross to the Rainbow Bridge. They were compassionate, kind, and comforting. They walked through every aspect of care including the ending of life & grief.

We wanted to say thank you to BluePearl for caring for Kona when she was sick with pneumonia. The communication by the doctors and staff was excellent and reaffirming since we were unable to visit our girl since she was in isolation. We received pictures and text / phone updates frequently while she was hospitalized. Additionally, we appreciated them being upfront about the cost as well. We felt BluePlearl was efficient in stabilizing Kona and developing a treatment plan so she wouldn’t have to be hospitalized for longer than necessary. Kona is still recovering at this time but is doing exceptionally well for how sick she was. We appreciate everything you do and would recommend this facility for emergency treatment! Thank you!
