How to Save Money at Armadale Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We are new to the area and were sad to say goodbye to our previous vet. We chose Armadale on a friend’s recommendation and know we’ve found a great new practice! The office is clean, friendly and well-staffed meaning you can get an appointment when you need it and they run on time. Their app is a great bonus and makes it easy to track appointments and access records 24/7. Our primary vet, Dr. Bonifant, is knowledgeable and spends the time to perform a comprehensive exam. She goes above and beyond to make our dog comfortable and us feel informed around both primary and preventative care.

I would highly recommend this vet! They are so caring and detailed. They take the time your pet deserves and do whatever they can to keep the animals feeling calm and safe. I brought my cat in for some emergency issues twice in one week, and they not only squeezed us in but followed up via phone and email afterwards with a complete overview of what was done and possible courses of action. They took us on when our usual vet was closed and we weren’t even existing patients. During a very stressful time, Armadale was there. Definitely go to them to give your baby the love they deserve!

We love Armadale! The staff is always friendly and welcoming! All of the doctor's have great knowledge and are truly caring. Anytime we've had an emergency or needed to be seen quickly, we have been taken in and cared for. We are so thankful to have found quality care for our babies!

I am hardly ever driven to write reviews, however I truly cannot recommend Armadale Animal Hospital, and specifically Dr. Crum enough. I switched to this animal hospital in April 2023 for my seven year old female Golden Retriever, Penny, after a recommendation from a friend. I was taking Penny in because I had noticed her limping and wanted her to be examined. Because this was her first visit - they did a full exam in addition to paying close attention to her limping. Upon doing the full exam, Dr. Crum was able to detect that Penny may have an eye disease specific to Golden Retrievers called GRPU. She referred us to an Ophthalmologist right away and they confirmed the diagnosis a week later. It was explained to me that this disease is VERY rarely caught this early, and typically is only diagnosed once some of the more painful/the worst symptoms have started to present themselves, at which point difficult decisions are often forced to be made regarding the dog's vision. Because Dr. Crum was so extremely thorough/knowledgeable in her new patient examination of Penny (who again was brought in for limping originally) and caught this disease at such an early stage - with newly prescribed steroid eye drops (that Penny will now get daily for the rest of her life) - the Ophthalmologist is optimistic that we will be able to drastically slow the progression of the disease. He believes that Penny may be able to go the rest of her life without encountering any of the painful/serious symptoms that come with the disease in later stages. Dr. Crum has also followed up with me multiple times since our appointment to check in on Penny, provide research articles on this disease, offer her condolences regarding the diagnosis etc. I have never felt more genuine care from a vet practice. I truly cannot express my gratitude enough for Dr. Crum and this animal hospital. I feel so incredibly thankful that I decided to make the switch and feel that Penny could not be in better hands. Highly, highly recommend! :)

This is my favorite vet that I have ever visited. Aramadale really treats your pet like they are your child (which my baby Luna is). She needed two teeth extracted and I was SO nervous about the procedure. They made sure to call me twice during the surgery to update me and let me know how she was doing. When I went to pick her up, a vet tech (who was in the room during her surgery) went over everything that happened during the surgery as well as care instructions. On top of the vet tech going over all of this, the surgeon also came in and talked to me about what went on during the surgery and also went over the care instructions again. These veterinarians are so caring and you can genuinely feel the love and care that they have for your fur babies. I would recommend Armadale to anyone!!
