How to Save Money at Healthy Petz Family Vet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We enjoy every visit with Healthy Petz! Even if it’s a sick visit or a well check they always treat our babe with kindness and compassion, given that he is 80ish lbs of pure hyper and love! Everyone has always been kind and professional and make the sometimes dreaded visits less stressful and always fun! Even if it’s only the squirt cheese that bribes our boy into sitting patiently while the kind ladies take care of him!!

I brought my indoor cat to be groomed today, in which she has to be sedated. Was informed she needed an “ANNUAL EXAM” & a rabies shot as well in order to be groomed. $244.00 for this process. I agreed to pay for services rendered & they collected the money. Upon picking her up after a whole days stay- I get her in my car & she’s covered in fleas. She DID NOT have fleas when she went in this morning. I have other cats that are also indoors & very well cared for that also DO NOT have fleas & haven’t at all in the 7+ years I’ve lived in NC. I took her back in to be treated because I refused to bring her home with fleas to my other animals and they seriously expected me to pay more $ for something they are at fault for. The veterinarian came out in front of all of those in the lobby & stated she had flea dirt on her when she examined her. This is an absolute lie! I called her out on it & even told her I’d bring my other cats up for her to inspect because she was straight lying to my face!! I’m livid! If a veterinarian can lie to your face & try to make you believe she had fleas when I know dang straight she did not because I’m obviously not blind & I live with my animals every day- what else do they lie about when “caring for or treating” your animals you trust them with?? This will absolutely be our last visit!! I wouldn’t trust them with a goldfish! To be a veterinarian, I’m sure you take an oath on the quality of care you will provide & standards of how you treat your clients and patients. I’m sure it also states that you will be true and honest about diagnosis & treatment of said patients. Along with many other things. Shame on Healthy Petz staff & Veterinarian for trying to swindle me for more money than the $244 I just paid to have her groomed & to blatantly lie to my face as well as try to make me look stupid in front of a lobby full of people!! I’m appalled! Might want to take some of that “EXTRA” money you swindle people out of & treat your building for fleas!!

You simply can't get a hold of them. I've left messages, never called back. I've sent emails, never returned. This has been going on for 8 months now. I've had good experiences in the past but good luck getting scheduled for anything anymore unless you book online (which I can't do if I want to take all 3 of my dogs at once).

Had a great experience here! We recently had a momma cat show up in our front yard (with kittens) who adopted us as her new parents. With that, we brought her in to get spayed and a check-up. As a seemingly feral cat, she was not keen on going to a vet, but all the staff took incredibly great care of her.
