How to Save Money at Aloha Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can't express enough how grateful we are for Dr. Mori and the incredible staff at Aloha Veterinary for their outstanding care of our beloved 16 month old, Doberman puppy, Flint. They were instrumental from birth. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism, making us feel instantly comfortable. Dr. Mori's expertise and compassion were evident throughout our entire experience. She took the time to thoroughly examine Flint, answering all of our questions and addressing any concerns we had. Her gentle and patient approach with Flint put us at ease, knowing that our furry family member was in the best possible hands. The entire staff at Aloha Veterinary went above and beyond to ensure Flint's comfort and well-being. From the friendly receptionists who always greeted us with a smile, to the diligent veterinary technicians who handled Flint with care, everyone displayed a genuine love for animals and a commitment to providing exceptional service. The clinic itself was clean, organized, and well-maintained, creating a welcoming environment for both pets and their owners. It was clear that the team at Aloha Veterinary takes pride in their work and goes the extra mile to create a positive experience for all. We are truly grateful for the expert care and compassion Dr. Mori and the staff at Aloha Veterinary showed Flint. Their dedication and professionalism are commendable, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have found such a wonderful veterinary clinic. We highly recommend Dr. Mori and Aloha Veterinary to anyone in need of exceptional care for their furry companions. Thank you, Dr. Mori and the entire team, for taking such great care of Flint! Sincerely, The Ruckers “Kevin, Ashley, Rylee, Ava & Flint”

I'll start by saying I was a vet tech for 20 years in Florida, so I have very high standards for the care that my animals receive. After my 3rd baby was born, I left my job in vet med to be home with them, and in the 3 years since then, I've struggled to find a vet clinic that I like. I've tried many. We moved to this area recently, and I gave Aloha a shot after many recommendations from the other dog owners in my neighborhood. I am so very happy to have found this place. I've yet to encounter a single person from the front desk, to the techs, to the veterinarians that aren't just wonderful, knowledgeable, and compassionate. (And they are also always really great with my human kids too!) I've finally found a place that has the level of care I've been looking for for my dogs, and I very highly recommend them to anyone looking for a vet.

Just had our first visit with Aloha vets. Very impressed with how our pets were treated. Loved the pup cups of whip cream. Went there to get Heart guard+ for both dogs. The other vet we were going to did not offer that one. The staff was very attentive and kind towards the dogs. We have a rat terrier and a min-pin who just relaxed while being examined by both the tech and the vet. We are switching to Aloha for all our pet needs (we have 2 cats too). Much closer to us and the price is reasonable for a basic exam. Can't wait to go back for the dogs bordatella shots. Highly recommend this vet for those near/on Perth Road.

Our experience at “Aloha Veterinary Clinic” was outstanding in every way. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a tremendously helpful and caring staff. Their commitment to excellence was evident throughout every step of the process, from the initial exam, the diagnostic procedure, surgery, to post-op care and follow-up. They all have a special way of treating their patients (regardless of the number of legs) with respect, and compassion. Not only did they provide the absolute finest medical care for our beloved Labrador, Annie. They also extended this same compassion and support to my wife and me. It's clear that the entire team at Aloha takes their work seriously, loves what they do and genuinely cares about the well-being of their patients and their families. We trust Aloha implicitly with the health and happiness of our furry family member, Annie. We couldn't be more grateful for the high quality of care and the peace of mind they've provided. If you're looking for a veterinary clinic that combines expertise, compassion, and a commitment to excellence, Aloha is the place to go. They've earned our trust and gratitude in more ways than they know. Truly a team that goes above and beyond what we expected in ALL regards….” Jeffrey and Doreen Tartamella (and Annie too.)

After days of my elderly dog being sick, not eating, not drinking and not moving, I made the agonizing decision to euthanize her and made the appointment. Without examining her, the new vet refused, and suggested I rehome her, but was completely ignorant as to any details or process. I left in tears, and am now awaiting an appointment elsewhere, and still watching my dog fail slowly. This is not the first pet I've had to help over the rainbow bridge, and I am appalled that the vet made this process so much more difficult than it should be. Edited to reply to Aloha: I called and asked for all details regarding euthanasia. No exam was mentioned, nor did the vet that came in mention it or discuss it with me. In fact, my appointment was specifically for euthanasia, and I was directed to a side room that had tissues in it. Oh, yeah, it also has Hershey kisses on the seat. Because chocolate is good for dogs? Or, maybe because it doesn't matter any more if the dog is going to be put to sleep? I scooped up all the chocolate, handed it to the attendant. She promptly set the chocolate back down on a table in the room. This ignorance is rather astounding.
