How to Save Money at Mint Hill Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been to way to many animal hospitals that make you feel guilty for your animals care and then charge you $1,000. I finally found my forever vet for all 3 of my pups. They have already seen them multiple times and saved my first fur baby Wookie from this huge mass that may have been cancerous. They sent it off and having it tested. I'm not worried because these vets, techs, and receptions are so amazing and nice. They never make you feel guilty EVER! I'm not good with names but I have never had any issues with any staff! They are they throw and love the animals they helps. I’m big on energies so when I walked in here for the first time I already knew I was in great hands. Great vibes great people. They will really go above any beyond. We highly recommend this place ❤️❤️❤️

I had such a wonderful first vet visit at Mint Hill Animal Hospital today with my two cats. Dr. Allers and Jenny were absolutely wonderful and so, so good with my kitties. I think this is the best vet visit I have ever had with my cats, and I previously went to a bigger chain vet. My cats are both a few years old and one is quite shy, the other is outgoing, but both cats did really well which is a testament to how comfortable they felt in the office. I highly recommend this facility and will definitely continue care here.

I used to go to this clinic years ago but stopped going after all the veterinarians we liked left. When my dog had an emergency situation and our regular vet couldn't manage to see her, I decided to give Mint Hill Animal another try. IAM SO GLAD I DID! The staff of this clinic is outstanding from the veterinarians to the vet techs and receptionists! I brought my senior dog in who couldn't stand -all of a sudden her front legs weren't working. Dr. Jones was very kind and after a thorough assessment, prescribed a treatment. The 3 techs who were helping, (YES 3!) clipped and trimmed her nails and paw hair. When the medication caused my dog to vomit blood, Dr. Jones called me back and prescribed another medication to stop this. Most other veterinarian clinics would make you come in so they could charge you. Thanks to this wonderful and brilliant clinic, my Tinkerbell has now complete recovery and going on walks and chasing rabbits! I will be using this clinic from now on and highly recommend!

The team at Mint Hill Animal Hospital has consistently provided amazing care for our pets. What really blew us away was the kind ways they cared for us as pet guardians during a difficult loss. We will surely be entrusting them with the care of our pets for many years.

We found our home for my pets. We have tried others in the area and haven't been please with the level of customer service or care. We tried these folks and am very please with everyone at this clinic. My Bear, (German Shepherd) a good dog but big boy. He is a little extra when getting checked out. Instead of being aggressive with him or wanting me to drug him up to bring him in. They were patient, feed him peanut butter and they were able to check him out. Dr. Mills had peanut butter all over him. He didn't seem to mind at all. I can't thank you all enough for your level of care you provide for all our pets!
