How to Save Money at Animal Hospital of Mebane
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Can’t say enough good things about these folks at Animal Hospital of Mebane! My old vet was booking us further and further out for routine care…which I understand, and figured was to accommodate more emergency and last minute appointments for sick animals. So I was dismayed when, after a few days of being off, my dog vomited blood and they couldn’t fit me in the entire week (called on a Tuesday). The old vet’s office told me to take her straight to an emergency hospital, and while I wouldn’t hesitate if I was sure that was needed, it felt like the wrong move and also bothered me that this was the immediate response, rather than at least trying to fit me in. She didn’t have a fever, is 4.5, and had never been sick before last week. My friend brings her dogs here and always has the highest praise of Dr. Jordan and all the staff, so I called and was really relieved that they were able to fit me in the next day. Had to take her back a few days later for a UTI that cropped up over the weekend and they were just as quick and got me in first thing on a Monday morning. Saw two different vets and spoke with multiple front desk staff. They all were very kind, listened thoroughly, and took my concerns seriously. They gave me an estimate of costs (that was accurate!) when she needed multiple tests run, and were very easy to communicate with and make appointments with. Both vets and the vet tech I saw were fantastic and communicative, and their pricing is competitive to the area. So glad to have found this place - thank you for helping my girl get back on her feet! Look forward to continuing to bring my dog here, and feel that I can trust that she is in really good hands going forward!

We just finished our first appointment and we're 100% satisfied with our experience. Everyone was professional and friendly. Our cat had their full attention from the moment we walked through their door. The entire visit was very thorough and organized from start to finish. Treatment options were fully explained (and reasonable) and they were very transparent with how much everything would cost. We are very happy to know that our cat can depend on the continued caring expertise of the veterinarians and staff of the Animal Hospital of Mebane.

I went to this place with an urgent new patient experience on the recommendation of a friend. Dr. Jordan was patient and kind, and made me feel like we were valued customers. We have stayed with this practice as it has grown and evolved. Now we see Dr. Doug Ray, and he is truly exceptional. He takes his time with thorough assessments, and he’s not afraid to reach out to other specialists if he feels like he’s stepping out of his area. He is a very competent surgeon but seems to enjoy working with people even more than that. I have thrown him a lot of curveballs over the years, and he always adapts and comes back with a plan. I feel included in the decision making but I also feel like my decisions are well-informed by his expertise. I highly recommend him. Although this is kind of like shooting myself in the foot because it’s actually already hard to get an appointment at this practice. They stay very busy! I highly recommend the practice. And hope they move somewhere larger soon.

The nurses and Doctor were very nice and respectful. They were gentle with Izzy and carefully helped her thru transition as she passed away and very caring with us as well. Nothing I want to go thru again but at least we had caring people to help us and make it easier. Thank you

I’m going to start off saying I have never in my life wrote a bad review until now, I believe everyone is deemed to have a bad experience but shouldn’t brand the place. I actually have been content with this vet up until recently, my dog was diagnosed with cancer and was told there is nothing they can do. This is already hard and I understand things like this can happen. They only prescribed his gabapentin/ steroids for a week. When I called back needing more meds they said they needed to see him back in even though the notes say there is nothing they can do but comfort at this point. My dog hates that places and feels very uncomfortable there as to be expected so the need to bring him back there seemed pointless to me. The receptionist Natalie was very in-compassionate, rude stated I needed to start reading the labels on the meds because I accidentally ran out of the steroids, was very rude about it and then they didn’t even refill the steroids only the gabapentin, I explain he now has a wound and most likely I would think would need antibiotics and they said they needed to see him I explained how hard it is for me to get him out and since they have already seen him and stated there is nothing they can do put provide meds, they didn’t care still needed to see him due to protocol, fine was not happy. I texted the other receptionist there explaining how incompassionate and rude Natalie was and she texted me back thinking she was texting Natalie her coworker and actually said really nasty things about me(the customer) which I still have the messages. Now they will not even send over his information until I pay $26 due to me canceling the visit due to my terrible experience. Then an Angel comes along Dr. Melissa Massey with Alamance country side mobile vet care. She explained he should not have been given a short time frame on his life span that noone can plan that and he should also be on stronger pain meds because he’s uncomfortable and knew this before even seeing him. And that he should be going through other and given more comfort options then what has been given. She only charged $85 to come out plus meds which she brought with her! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MELISSA WITH ALAMANCE COUNTRY SIDE MOBILE VET CARE. I have never been so pleased in my life with the compassion and knowledge she has shown me.
