How to Save Money at Caring Hearts Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have taken our 2 cats to Caring Hearts since we adopted them a few years ago. Recently we discovered that one of them had some serious dental issues. The staff was able to get Bernice seen quickly. She ended up having some extractions that we weren’t planning on. Dr Lorie did a fantastic job with the dental procedure and we have a happy kitty now! She was able to work within our budget also. Great staff too. Thank you Caring Hearts!

The staff at Caring Hearts are incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate. All three of my dogs appreciate their approach to creating a calm and safe environment. All dogs happily wait to see the staff when we go in. One of my dogs in particular has a rare and difficult to diagnose condition and Dr. White worked magic to give me 12 years and counting with him! One of my other dogs sees Dr. Morefield and loves her. The technicians are kind and always answer all my questions. Couldn’t ask for a better experience! So much, that I continue to see them even though I’ve moved out of the immediate area.

Dr White and her team have helped our sweet Stella for many years now. I really appreciate the vet recommending a calming medication for her to take before the vet visit. It makes going to the vet a whole lot less stressful. Their staff are very loving and kind toward Stella and we really appreciate their work.

This Vet is very gentle. I've been taking my pets to Dr. White for over 16 years. I am very confident with their care.

We have used Caring Hearts for over 14 years with our Maddie girl. We used to see Dr. White mostly as the doctors switched often years ago. Dr. Morefield joined the practice and then there were 2 wonderful doctors. It does not matter which doctor is available as we trust both of them with our girl. Last week Maddie was sick so we called and got a next day appt with Dr. Morefield. After some blood work she gave us our options with our girl. The options unfortunately were very expensive and did not want to put our 14 1/2 girl through that. So we took our baby home. Fast forward she got sicker so we knew it was time. We had an appt for this morning. We were deciding on home or vet’s office to put our baby to sleep. We decided at the vets, so this morning we brought her in. Caring Hearts exceeded our expectations. First Dr. Morefield was on today and since she just saw our baby last week I was glad she was back. We were brought into this beautiful room, not an exam room. A quiet room with a couch, pretty chair, spa music and candle flickering. How calming was this. Our baby was anxious so we asked for sedation first and they agreed. It was such a sad day for us as our baby girl was the light of our family. She was a sweet and kind dog who loved everyone. They treated her with dignity and care. We opted for cremation so they will call us when she comes back. Thank you to Dr. White, Dr. Morefield and entire staff for 14 1/2 years of loving and caring for our girl. In time we will get another dog and will be back.
