How to Save Money at West Stanly Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place believes every animal who doesn't have a current rabies is infected. I was turned away today because my 16 year old cat was passed due. The last time I brought in a sick cat they just updated the rabies and took care of him. This cat has generalized symptoms just like the cat I brought in today. I offered to have proof sent over that she has had a rabies vaccine in the past. I then drove her to Cabarrus animal and took such good care of her today I cried because the difference in how I was treated was like night and day. They took her in ran some tests, and found out she was in liver failure and had to be euthanized. They held her, loved on her, and most of all respected us through the process. West Stanley is a hole in vet that needs to be shut down. The poor receptionists are the ones who have to do the dirty work for Dr Griffin. They were kind and did the best they could to let me down nicely. He doesn't deserve his staff. Never again.

Don’t GO It’s pretty bad when you spend money there over couple years and you had had to go somewhere closer when things got tight and your dog was bleeding goes he got bite by something and you get to west stanley because he has seen Dr Griffin before that they can’t see them because we moved them to another vet. So they don’t care about your pets just about money can tell they lose alot people it wasn’t busy not like it use to be. Its not a friendly place anymore. Dr griffin was a good dr is staff on the other hand not so compassionate I had a my update records with his shots and still wouldn’t see him and he was bleeding. I know am mad but my fur babies don’t deserve this

I hate to even give this place one star. My dog had a growth in his genitals had an appointment to get him neutered. Have me two prices one with no bloodwork and a cancer testing and one with the testing I made it very clear I just started a new job and would not be able to to the blood tests at that time and it was no problem. Called with a opening yesterday but missed the call because was at work but woke up this morning and his genitals had busted open so tried to see if I could bring him in to do the surgery we had planned but for whatever reason today since I wouldn’t pay the extra 300 dollars for the blood panel they said they will no longer see him or my other dog that doesn’t even have a problem so another words kicked us out. When asked why the doctor doesn’t want to do it without doing the blood panel even though he was willing to do it just yesterday. I truly believe they will take an emergency and try to charge you while you are desperate. Then we call back and say fine I will find the money do the panel just please help me and my dog please but but because the doctor said no he would not do it anymore even after saying whatever we will pay the extra 300 dollars somehow and when asked why did it go from trying to get us in yesterday to kicking us out today and the answer from the nurse is the doctor will not touch your dog and if you take him somewhere else to have the surgery done he doesn’t know what they have done so he will not see him for that reason as well and that they are understaffed which I have heard for three years so I am cleaning my dogs open he talks and having to wrap them up because we get kicked out of this hole in the wall for which ever reason they gave me that’s the truth I think if they as that understaffed or that cook old man vet is that crazy they should close the doors for good I’m trying to save my dog if I could call the law and have them charged with animal cruelty I would in a heartbeat. I would just like to save anyone looking for a good vet to not take your animals that you love that are family do not go to this vet I don’t even blame the women it’s the old man doctor that makes the woman get on the phone and do his dirty work because he is to big of a coward to get on the phone is self. I pray they respond back to my review because I have all the paperwork where we went in and set everything up with the prices so please west Stanley animal clinic please respond back and try to make me out to be the liar. The old man just be put out to pasture or have his genitals busted open and forced to walk around that way. If you see all these terrible reviews about this place and still choose to take your pets there you obviously do not care about your pets as you should. Would love a response west Stanley animal clinic my name is dakoda boys and pets name is Damien Boyd please respond.

I will never go this vet again!!! I went to have my dog put down and just asked if the vet could take a look at her to see if that was the right call, just needed some assurance I was doing the right thing for my pup. The vet wouldn’t see her and said we could either bring her back another time or just put her down, as I cuddled my dog in a blanket knowing how stressful this was on her and me. They didn’t care not one bit!!! The receptionist was frustrated with me and it was just all transactional, no sympathy was extended to me or my dog at all!!!!! I left that place in tears and will never ever go back!!! She was my pup for 14 years and for it to be treated as a transaction is sickening! You guys should and need to do better!

I WOULDN'T EVEN GIVE THEM ONE STAR! We have been going to this vet for almost 6 years. Never had a bad experience or anything UNTIL TODAY 10/31/2023! One of our dogs had tumors growing on his testicles. We took him in there a couple of weeks ago to get it looked at and because one side had busted open and was leaking some clear stuff (not bad at all but we were very concerned) anywho we scheduled his surgery for that Friday when we first took him in. Unfortunately we weren’t able to come up with the money because my husband just started a new job and has had to wait 3 weeks before his first paycheck and we also have 4 kids with one in college. Life happens. So we wake up this morning and noticed blood in our dogs cage and realized that our dog had started to chew on it overnight while we were asleep. As soon as the vet opened this morning we called and were trying to explain to them what was going on and we were told at first because we didn’t want to pay the extra money for the blood testing and cancer testing, and bc they were understaffed the doctor didn’t want to do it. Well we call back and say if we pay for the testing and since y’all are so understaffed (which they’ve been understaffed for going on about 3/4 years now and changed doctors also which I wasn’t too fond of and they wouldn’t never see our cat either, but we continued to take our dogs there to be seen) can yall maybe prescribe some antibiotics and do it maybe tomorrow or Friday or something? We were then informed they were no longer able to see either of our dogs from now on. I’m in such disbelief and in such shock as to why all of a sudden your no longer going to see either of my dogs. I did not raise my voice, did not cuss, just simply was asking questions which led to them saying they could no longer see either of our dogs. We highly recommended them to anyone. When we took him before he chewed his tumor overnight they only charged us $10 just for the antibiotic. Did not charge us for the visit or anything which we were very grateful for. This has just blown me out of the water! I WILL NO LONGER RECOMMEND ANYONE TO GO HERE EVER! PLEASE FIND ANOTHER VETERINARIAN TO TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TOO! This was ridiculous and VERY uncalled for to be treated like this over asking questions and trying to get my dog taken care of. Mind you they were going to do the surgery yesterday (10/30/2023) but when we called this morning and told them he had chewed at them overnight we got all this. I’m just appalled at this point. I just seriously recommend anyone to NEVER take your animals here!!!!!
