How to Save Money at North Davidson Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have used these guys for all 3 of my bully babies. They saved ones life years ago from parvo and his chances were only about 10 percent to live. He lived a long healthy happy life after until 11. My next bully I adopted and he was old and had to be put down and unfortunately that experience was an awful one. The older doctor here I don't think intended at all to be insensitive to our situation but he was extremely. I know it's routine for them and he's done it so many years he's not phased but he never said a word and he pulled my dead dog off of me by his coat like he was roadkill. Our pets are our family and a life lost is a life lost, animal or not. My husband is a big guy and him or I could have moved him. We wanted a few minutes after with him but he pulled him right off of me. Great experience with the place they used for cremation. As for my review today, I LOVE the doctor my Bria seen today!! Very kind. Interacted well with my girl. She's missing a leg and they treated her just like any other and acknowledged that she acts as though she's not phased at all by her missing right front leg. All the staff had to stop and love on her which is wonderful because bully breeds get an awful reputation. The 2 chihuahuas and the small poodle trying to attack my dog and barking at her for 15 mins didn't phase her. She growled once and laid at my feet to let them know, just don't come near my mama. Otherwise, we had an amazing visit. Did the shot option for heartworm prevention and do not have to worry about missing pills monthly and it's good for a whole year!! Thank you all for all the love my girl got, people are usually terrified of her because she is masculine. The staff is knowledgeable enough to know it isn't the breed that makes aggression, it's the raising and environment. Thank you guys we'll see u in a year!

#1. The phone never gets answered. I had to drive to the vet to just find out how Max(cat)was doing. He had stones in his urinary tract and was there 8 days on the 7th which was when they wouldn't answer the phone, I got to see him and he w whole backside was covered in piss and spray and fical matter. I was appalled because I have used this Vet before I got results. But after 8 days he could pee without a catheter. They released him Sunday morning and by Sunday night he started showing signs of blockage again. So I took him to the Winston Salem Vet Specialist and they knew what it was in 5 mins. After ultrasound they found a lot of stones in his bladder. Surgery was around 8000$. But it was worth every penny. They saved his life and they are a 24 hour Vet that specializes in such surgeries. He's been healed 2 months and is a whole new cat.North Davidson had him 8 days and didn't do anything to find out the root of the problem which was bladder stones. All they had to do was an ultrasound but didn't.They also charge a lot extra for UTIs in cats.the staff was completely clueless. Met a few techs who knew what was going on and Dr Smuck was good. I will never bring another living animal to that Vet. It's highly overrated and good luck on getting your phone calls answered . They also put 2 cones on his head and he could barely eat or drink it even hold his head up. I was floored by the way he looked. He pulled the catheter out himself and they just let him stay wet with pee and whatever else it was all over his back.

Update: She has made nearly a full recovery and it is all thanks to God and North Davidson Vet taking a chance on our girl!! We cannot thank the staff enough for the incredible effort, time, and patience they have had with our fur baby and all the questions we have had since she's been sick. This place is truly a blessing. Your animals are in great hands here! Original Review: Our puppy, Miracle, is very sick and the first vet we took her to just wanted to put her down. Thankfully, north davidson veterinary hospital was able to take her in and give her a fighting chance. She isn't out of the woods yet but regardless of the outcome we are so grateful for their compassion and dedication. We feel so much better knowing our baby is in good hands. We can't thank them enough for not giving up on our sweet girl and doing all they possibly can to help her get better.

They are not as reasonable with their service anymore. I have a dog to spayed and it will cost 450.00 to do it. She is only 6 lbs. So looking at having it done someplace else. I would it to be done there. I had my other dog done she did great and she was 35 lbs. At the time and only cost me 150.00.

Wow. I am just absolutely pleased with this location. Our small dog was attacked on Thursday. They took her in for surgery on Monday and got her back to new after her nose was ripped open. Total bill ? Right around 400 for the first initial visit, a vaccine, medications, and for the second visit for surgery. The surgery bill was 300 less than the original quote. I'm stunned at the pricing, I was thinking an attack like this would cost closer to 1k or more but they truly have amazing pricing. I'm even more stunned at speed of service and the amazing staff. I called and was given a same day appointment and then the surgery set the following business day. This office is busy because they do amazing work and the staff is professional and friendly. All of our pets will be going here from now on.
