How to Save Money at Wake Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The biggest shoutout to WAKE for taking amazing care of our boy Astro. Bladder stones are no joke. We called a few places in a hurry as the matter was time sensitive. We live in Dunn but opted WAKE over closer animal hospitals due to Amber’s AMAZING customer service. She didn’t hesitate to call our vet and elsewhere to acquire necessary documents to try to help save us money on running the same tests. From start to finish we were completely blown away from every interaction with staff. Special shout out to Dr. Gardner and Dr. Harris, his amazing vet techs, Amber, Meghan and really all of the staff we interacted with. 10/10 experience start to finish.

High quality pet care and office. This is why we switched & they’re expanding which could be a good sign (I say could) of what’s to come if they invest & continue to manage things correctly. We’ll see. Will adjust my review 1 year from now! So far, so good! Nowhere near as expensive as the others in the Wake Forest area. Two happy Frenchies!

BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST VETS!! Read full review! (Surprise cat at end) I have seven animals, I recently moved to the area and needed a new vet. I’ve been to three other vets in the area and they just weren’t my speed. I felt rushed or non important- I felt like my animals weren’t thoroughly looked over - my animals were always stressed when they were being removed from the room for vaccines or being picked up and moved around quickly and hiding when they got home. THIS vet made all my animals super comfy in the room before starting anything which was a huge kick in the right direction for me. They did the full exam in front of me while explaining everything they did and found in detail. They gave the vaccines in the room and told me what they were and what they did. They also caught a tooth problem in my cat that was seen by a previous vet less than a week ago which they didn’t even look at. I found out she’ll need surgery and I’m blessed to have gone to this vet because it’s been overlooked countless times at other vets. I felt like my animals were a part of their family and were very well looked over, handled gently and lovingly. My cats couldn’t get enough, one didn’t want the vet to put him down! They also have the comfiest sinks ;) They all were very happy when they got home - not stressed like usual trying to hide.

Brought my Chihuahua here for an emergency last night and Dr. Kemp was phenomenal! Took the time to really explain my dog’s problems and showing examples of what a healthy heart looks like compared to my dog’s. Offered great suggestions for at home care that I really appreciated. The night staff was also so friendly, I love this clinic and plan on switching my dogs over to them for all care.

Last night, I had to rush my beloved dog, Gigi, to Wake Vet. Gigi was a 16 year old yorkie with health issues and I knew in my heart her time was coming to an end. From the moment I walked in, the staff demonstrated an unwavering commitment to both my pet's well-being and my peace of mind. They were not only professional but also incredibly compassionate. The entire team went above and beyond to make a difficult situation more bearable. Their kindness, patience, and understanding meant the world to me during such a heartbreaking time. I can't thank Dr. Morrow and the entire staff at Wake Vet enough for their dedication to their work and the passion they have for animals. In moments of crisis, it's reassuring to know there are professionals like them who truly care. I wholeheartedly recommend Wake Vet to anyone in need of exceptional pet care and support.
