How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It’s been a yr and I have really enjoyed taking my babies Coco and Kali here. As is everywhere you go these days, no matter where you go, shortage of staffing abounds, but they make every effort to accommodate your schedule and needs. Love the Vet Doctors as well as the staff. Always friendly, helpful, patient, and careful to be sure to deliver the best level of care.

Edit: thank you all for listening to me and actually getting my dog an X-ray and sending her to a specialist. Other vets ignored me bc she’s so young. Hopefully we can get her the care she needs soon This place was a much better experience than our last encounter at a nearby banfield. My dog has bad anxiety and they let me take her to a back room to calm her before her appointment and it was fine she had no issues going with the nurse. The doctor and her got along and she said she had no issues. Thank you all for taking care of her so well.

This establishment held our very sick dog for hours & when it was time to pick her up told us that no work had been done because they needed to wait for consent and payment review. Any other location has always called prior to pick up time to ok charges and treatment. Instead they chose not to provide our dog with care and stated that they would continue with services on the next appointment date! Extremely UNACCEPTABLE and a waste of our time. Do not bring your pet here!

I would highly not recommend!! DO NOT SUPPORT, not personable and no ethics! This is a production base practice. The prices are high, their membership is almost a scam! Everyone I have explained my experience to jaw dropped and asked me why did I take my puppy to Banfield!! You can not cancel membership in office you have to call a number that the wait time was over 1 hour to speak to a live representative. I had to cancel my membership via text message service after hours trying to reach someone during my time at work and before the 4 day dead line to cancel my membership because my puppy will not return! You are not welcomed behind the door with your pet. You never see the veterinarians face only spoke via phone call. I had a drop off appointment both times that took 4+ hours. Dr. Nimocks never took into consideration my comfort level and never educated me on my concerns only forced sedation on my two month old puppy bc he wouldn’t “stay still” for x rays. Dr. Nimocks questioned if my breeder was a veterinarian when referencing what my breeder recommended while I was stating what I was uncomfortable with and what I really did not understand. She appeared confident my puppy had something broken but after putting my two month old puppy through sedation and no telling how many x rays, nothing was broken and only explained their was possibly a soft tissue injury. (As I am happy and thankful nothing was broken) as a VETERINARIAN who was so confident it was broken and highly recommended moving forward with sedation and x rays without the least invasive FIRST really shows Dr. Nimocks ethics and the practice of the company. I come from a career where the least invasive is always first option and patient educated is always given when patients feel uncomfortable not questioned their comfort level but here it appears it is based on how much money you can get from the pet companion because we are willing to do anything for our fur babies! This is where people are taken advantage of! People have to realize offices have a daily production they must meet and this is exactly how I felt this operation works. I am extremely uncomfortable and my trust for veterinarian offices has been ruined from my experience here. DO NOT SUPPORT I paid everything I needed so my puppy does not have to return and I will never recommend this place to anyone!

As a corporate company, it’s not the employees at the hospitals fault. They have always been very kind and courteous. It is just extremely frustrating to be paying so much monthly for services and care but never being able to book an appointment when it is needed or receive what you are paying for.
