How to Save Money at Riverbank Animal Hospital P.A.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff is super friendly. Service is affordable which helps as well. Almost a year ago I had to put my service dog down because she had cancer that was rare to dogs and progressively spreading at a rapid pace. The Vet was compassionate, they showed empathy and gave me all the time I needed with her before and after they euthanized her. It’s a day I’ll never forget. But the help of the staff having compassion the way they did helped a lot that day!

We’ve been to several vets around the country and a couple overseas. This is by far the best veterinarian hospital we’ve ever been to. For a walk in clinic, they see you quickly, provide excellent care, and all at a cost well under that of other vets. My dog had bladder stones for the 4th time in a row. I thought I couldn’t afford another surgery and was in tears. The price they charged for her surgery and care was 1/7th of the price I’ve had to pay elsewhere! I’m so glad I took my dog here. Thank you, Dr. Cory and staff!

We’ve been bringing our Dachshunds to RiverBank since we got them as puppies, then later, for puppy screenings & vaccines for their litter. And just more recently for spaying & neutering of our pair. (I would add they also tended to our older dog’s end of life’s needs with the greatest care and compassion ♥️). They are a very busy, low cost, walk-in animal hospital, so a wait is to be expected. But with a clean, comfortable waiting room, free coffee and a nice friendly atmosphere, it’s not an unpleasant wait. And always worth it for the quality of care and service they provide.

This is a walk-in clinic so I was able to get my dog Rosie in same day. She's nine years old and I thought she had a broken bone turns out just arthritis and probably a little overweight. The staff is excellent for the most part. One stuffy person but her attitude changed even while I was there. Really really like the techs and the vets! I like that they can take as many x-rays as they want for One price. They are not looking to gouge the public they truly care about animals and the families. I drove down from winterville. Had my son in wheelchair on oxygen didn't even phase them no problem. I love love love that they have free coffee! We also bought a candle. It's a beautiful clean office in the customer seemed for the most part happy. And they put up with me talking their heads off lol. I give my dog rabies at the animal shelter and her regular shots from tractor supply. Her other stuff heartworm all that thing I have also purchased online and that doesn't bother them. When a place doesn't look to make as much money as they possibly can off their customers you know they are quality!

Very nice vet techs and veterinarians. They were able to handle our wild kitten, our very big boy (no body shaming there), and our talkative girl. Prices are reasonable and we didn’t wait long. One negative…they don’t answer their phone or email.
