How to Save Money at Dr. Marguerite Gleason, DVM
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Recently we found out that our dog had extensive dental issues so we were referred to Dr. Gleason due to her expertise in advance dentistry. Our dog needed multiple extractions and had deteriorating bone due to abscesses. In addition to our overall concern for our dog's health, we were in crisis mode because we were also leaving for a trip out of the country at the end of the month; this trip could not be rescheduled. Dr. Gleason and her team offered to do our dog's surgery after hours in order to give our dog time to heal before we had to depart on our trip. All parts of the surgery were clearly explained to us in advance and, after the surgery, we received multiple calls and contacts from Dr. Gleason to guide us through our dog's recovery. I am happy to say that today our pup has a clean bill of dental health, is eating like a champ, and even has more energy for a 13 year old. Thank you, Dr. Gleason, for all you did for our sweet hound dog. You're the best!

Hello and thank you for reviewing my post. I recently called to get a better understanding for specific services. I provided my dog's breed, age, weight, level of activity. and current health status. I detailed exactly the services I was interested in. Two separate assistants refused to provide a range for services within reasonable expectations. The best help the two assistants could offer was between $500 and $10,000. After reading other posts here I was insulted by their response. Wow, thanks for all your help.

What an excellent experience! Our 10 year old toy poodle, Sophie, had a cleaning and our vet in Greensboro (Dr. Jon Amos) indicated one abscessed tooth (a lower right large rear molar) required pulling by a specialist. He was concerned he could not manage it if her very thin lower jaw area were to fracture. A first referral to a dental Vet in Durham was totally unsatisfactory with the prognosis being a partial jaw removal of all things! Totally unacceptable and absurd. We researched for months before pursuing further. Referred to Dr. Marguerite Gleason, I had many, many questions. Ultimately her treatment plan included sectioning this lower right molar, pulling front half in the area of the thin jaw and preparing for a root canal on rear half. Ultimately rear half was able to be pulled with no jaw fracture. She then did bone grafts in 2 locations. She was literally the only vet to tell us Sophie was in pain, prescribing pain med at the initial consultation. Sophie is like a new poodle! So happy it and it shows. Dr. Gleason is truly an expert and far better than other area Dental specialists in my opinion. Superb expertise. Thank you so much!

Dr. Gleason is awesome! Dr. Gleason performed oral surgery on my beloved Westie. Dr. Gleason and her staff are so nice and friendly. At our pre-op appointment, they were very helpful and walked me through all of the steps for the upcoming surgery. I really liked how informative they were. They were patient with all of my many questions, and put me at ease as I could tell they truly cared about my pet. Each one of the techs we have worked with have also been wonderful. My Westie's surgery went smoothly and he has recovered beautifully. Also, the facility is beautiful. This is the cleanest and nicest pet hospital I've ever been to. It's a really nice and calm environment. We are very grateful for Dr. Gleason + her team. My Westie is back to his rowdy self and ready to hit the hiking trails :-)

Dr. Gleason is terrific! My dog was attacked and her bottom lip was torn. We went to an emergency vet that put in stitches. A few days later the stitches came loose. We were referred to Dr. Gleason by our veterinarian. The staff was very friendly and compassionate. Dr. Gleason did an amazing job making sure the stitches would not fail again. I highly recommend her and her staff.
