How to Save Money at All Hearts Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We are so happy that we found this veterinary practice! Dr. Jenna Moe is knowledgeable, caring and patient. Our first experience was when our 15 year old rescue needed to be euthanized. The process went smoothly, and our sweet Maddie passed peacefully. Naturally, we returned to All Hearts when we were ready for our next rescue pup. We have been very pleased with the level of care given our dog and recommend this practice to our friends, family and neighbors.

I absolutely love bringing my animals here to Dr Moe. Her dedication to the well-being of all animals shines through in everything she does. I have followed her from her old clinic (10 minutes from my house) to her new clinic, which is 40 minutes from my house because that's how much it means to me to have her taking care of my crew through sickness and in health. Additionally, I love that they are open and transparent about how they serve the entire community, that the LGBTQ+ community is safe and welcome there. Especially in a small town with a bigoted mindset, it is reassuring in ways I can't explain to know that this animal clinic is a safe place for me and my animals, and that I would never be discriminated against, or myself or my animals treated as "second class" because we have a different belief system or set of values. It is so reassuring in so many ways to bring my animals here.

It would be remise of me not to write this review. All Hearts Animal hospital's veterinarian hospital has little experience and appears to be an all female run operation. They have a rainbow sign on their back door stating that they serve all types of people and religions. First time I have seen a sign like this on an animal hospital door and not sure why this is necessary to publicize but nonetheless and noted. My senior dog had to be put down and the vet (only a few years of experience according to her bio) Jenna Moe could not find a vein in my ailing dog. It took over five minutes of poking and prodding inside our dying dog's leg as my wife and I looked on. It was horrific to watch. Our dog would wince due to the needle being moved around inside her leg. Finally, our dog went to doggy heaven. I still can't get that visual out of my head. Perhaps the inexperience is showing. A second recent visit with our other dog. Came in for a check up. I was asking questions with responses from the vet tech which seemed unusual and it appeared she took the questions personally. Obviously, when she left the room, she spoke to the vet. Finally, the vet came in and while checking our dog grabbed our already scared to death dog's back right leg and my dog began pulling back out of fright while the vet pulled in the opposite direction. It was liking watching a tug of war with our 100+ pound dog and the vet on her knees on the floor pulling with both hands back and forth like a competition so hard a popping sound was heard! The vet even said out loud, "there's a pop!" There is NO DOUBT in my mind that this traumatized our already scared dog. My wife and I remained calm and left. On the way home, we discussed this inexperienced vet and her staff and decided not to use them any longer. I have met a lot of vets in my time as a certified professional dog trainer for 11 years and I have never seen a vet treat a dog like this nor take 5 minutes to find a vein in a dog. Due to potential future injury to our dog especially when we can not see what goes on behind closed doors with this type of physical treatment, we will not return. I Will Not and Do Not recommend Jenna Moe and her staff at All Hearts Animal hospital in Hickory, NC.

We just brought in our new puppy, Calypso, for the first time. We were so impressed by the staff and the office! The clinic is very clean and neat. The staff are very kind and knowledgeable! Our puppy was well cared for! We can't wait to continue the relationship with this clinic for all our fur babies!
