How to Save Money at Hampstead Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Bradley and her team are the best. They are attentive and thorough. They even provide free nail trims if you're military. I would 100% recommend them.

Amazing experience with this vet during a tough time. They showed great compassion and are a truly classy organization, even sending us a handwritten condolence note. We're going to change vets for our second dog to them, even if they are thirty minutes further from our home.

I was referred to Hampstead Animal Hospital by someone who worked there at the time. We scheduled a visit because my dog was having bad diarrhea as well as vomiting. This was last year in 2022. Well the visit went great they gave me everything I needed and once he was taken care of they escorted me out of the building so I assumed my bill would be coming in the mail since they did not stop me at the desk. Well it never did and safe to say I forgot about it after a few weeks. Completely my fault. Well last week I had scheduled an appointment for my dog again for his annual vaccines and check up. We arrive today at 2 and they get us back there. I tell the lady what we are here for and she brings this man in. He explained to me I have an invoice from a year ago, I explained to him the situation and how I would like to set up payment plans for it since it was forgotten on seemingly both ends. I also explain to him I wanted a payment plan set up for today as well as the previous balance considering I’m under the impression they do that according to an employee. Well he then starts speaking to me like he lost his mind. He treated me like I had half a brain and spoke to me with the utmost disrespect. He then tells me they only do payment plans for certain situations. I tell him I’ll reschedule the whole visit and he keeps pushing back telling me that my dog needs these things and I needed to pay today. I explain to him I cannot pay upfront today and since they don’t do payment plans for this I will just reschedule when I can pay upfront. He tells me to go to the front desk to reschedule. The lady at the front desk stares at me blankly for a solid minute and a half before I said I’ll just reschedule over the phone. Moral of the story their customer service is poor. If you don’t know how to treat a human I’m almost positive they don’t know how to treat a dog. I wouldn’t trust anyone that spoke to me that way to be competent enough to look at my dog.

I previously (2 years ago) gave this vets office a good review. I can no longer say that my previous review reflects the service being given there today. We’ve had small issues here and there but this last issue was the straw that broke the camels back. We recently purchased pet insurance. When I sent in our first claim the insurance company said they needed the vet notes from the visits my pup had over the last year. Seemed straight forward enough, except this vet office flat out refused to give my insurance company copies of the notes. It took me calling more than once, going in in person and having the vet personally call me before they would agree to send the notes. Then come to find out, the notes can’t be read because they’re hand written and the vet has terrible penmanship. My insurance company and myself have contacted this office several times to request the notes to be transcribed. No transcribed notes have been sent. We ended up having to switch vet offices and we’re going to have to cancel our vet insurance until we have a years worth of legible vet notes from our new vet office.

Great place. The staff is very friendly and professional. My dogs received a very thorough examination, including teeth cleaning and nsil trim. I used to go to another vet that wasn't as thorough and I realize now that I was short changing my pets. Cheaper isn't always better.
