How to Save Money at Humane Society of the Piedmont
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I love the staff at the spay and neuter clinic . I rescued 12 standard poodles from a horrific situation it was a puppy mill and it’s been a lot to deal with and if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have been able to afford to get them neutered and I needed that as soon as I could possibly get them done, they have been absolutely outstanding. Their staff is the most wonderful caring Kind people and the place is clean. I know their veterinarians and vet techs are wonderful. I couldn’t ask for a better place to take any of my dogs thank you for all you have done. You’re amazing. You can’t go wrong there. You will have the best experience for your animals.

I couldn't recommend this place high enough. First of all, when you walk through the door it looks like you're at a child's doctor's office. It's so bright and colorful. Very clean. The staff was wonderful. Everyone was really nice and explained the process well. The vet was thorough and took her time explaining everything to me. The vet assistant, Zoe was the best. She made sure all of my questions were answered before I left. The prices are so reasonable. My dog acts like a puppy again. The vet identify the problem right away and gave us solutions. Bentley thinks you so much!

We have taken our female cockapoo (Charlie Baby Girl) to this facility a few times and we have been very pleased with the care given to Charlie. On 6/18/24, we took Charlie in for her annual physical exam, heart worm test, and nail trim. While we were waiting in the lobby, I noticed the Share Shelves, a large display of free donated items (such as leashes, toys, dog clothes, pet bedding, etc.) and food samples for cats and dogs. Charlie was extremely nervous, as she always is when she has to go to the vet, and I found a small starfish-shaped squeaky toy. I tried to distract Charlie with it, but she didn’t become interested in the toy until after we came home LOL. The veterinarian that cared for Charlie on this particular day was Dr. Kristen Greeson. Dr. Greeson was very thorough in her examination and heard a heart murmur while listening to Charlie’s heart. She suggested that we take Charlie to a full-specialist veterinarian hospital for further evaluation, which we will do. Dr. Greyson answered all of our questions and concerns. She was very gentle with Charlie during her examination. We purchased Charlie’s heart worm and flea prevention at the receptionist’s desk. The receptionist that checked us out was very friendly. There was a printout at the receptionist’s desk listing the particular services that they provide. Services provided include spays and neuters, dentals for cleaning and basic extractions for pets under 5 years old, annual exams, Wellness Plans for new puppies and kittens, dog and cat vaccines, and extra services such as heart worm testing, fecal exams, nail trims, FELV/FIV testing for cats, microchipping, deworming, and heart worm, flea, and tick preventative. The lobby and the examination room we were in were both very clean, well cared for, and spacious. We will continue to take Charlie to this particular facility and we would definitely recommend this facility for any pet owners wishing to care for their pet but without the hefty fees that can be accrued at most veterinarian facilities. Keeping your pets in good health can be costly sometimes, and it’s DEFINITELY a blessing that Humane Society of the Piedmont is available for helping pet owners and their beloved furry family members.

I scheduled an appointment for my kitten to get spay and vaccinations. This is my first experience with the clinic, and it was a very good one. The staff there were extremely responsive and provided very good instructions. They took care of my kitten and did a great job with all the services requested. I would definitely recommend them. 👌

I'm really impressed with the care my cat received. Her surgery went well and recovered nicely. They took very good care of her, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable and explained the aftercare thoroughly. All at a very reasonable price!
