How to Save Money at Wayne Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This vet is the worst! The vet has zero knowledge about cropping corsos, even though he claimed to have alot experience. No follow up, horrible customer service and ,no accountability. I have to now get them recropped by a experience vet. This veterinarian charged 6k for 6 pups and this is the last time i will use him for ANYTHING! ON TOP OF THAT, TRIED TO BLAME MY WIFE FOR HIS INCOMPETENCE ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY AND ARROGANCE BEYOND MEASURE. I wish i could post a picture! Plus my pups came back with fleas and kennel cough. Got my puppies looking like bats. Smdh dr silver! This is show crop? On what planet?

Dr. Silver cropped 6 of our Cane Corso puppies' ears. We spent $60 per puppy for a consultation to ensure he could do "show crop". I repeatedly and specifically asked for show crop. I showed him pictures of our adult corsos, now and as puppies. I specified numerous times, even using his own chart that I was presented with, that we wanted show crop. I addressed several concerns after surgery with the front office staff, as well as the technicians there who brought our puppies out and was told I would have to make an appointment to see the vet again. I ONLY saw him for the consultation. I asked if this was normal, to not be able to see the vet after surgery, they said yes, not without an appointment (and paying more $ after the approx. 6K we already paid.) I guess the surgery and post op visits did not count as appointments. I called and emailed the office to give Dr. Silver a chance to rectify the incorrect crop or to offer some sort of solution. The doctor himself called me and said he did what I asked and blamed me for miscommunication. I don't know how much more clear I could have been. After he refused to offer any resolution, I brought them to another vet who said she has never seen anything like what Dr. Silver did to our corsos and said our puppies looked goofy (an understatement). Please save your dogs and yourself the stress and money this vet has caused us, and go to Riverbank Vet in Kinston, NC. Please see pictures below.

I did not even realize they were here and not too far from my home until this morning. I had a prescription cat food crisis of my own making this morning (running out) and it was not their crisis, since my cat is not their patient yet. They helped me figure it out. The prescribing vet was too far for my available time this morning (but they were amazing too). They sent a prescription to Wayne Veterinary Hospital for me immediately and the WVH team of 4 amazing and hardworking women at the desk with me made sure I got taken care of. They were great listeners, and even though working and very busy, they were friendly, supportive and warm and welcoming. I think I have found my more local vet. They are not too far from me and they all clearly love the pet family members they see and were interested in who mine were. My "ancient" orange tabby and my "ancient" German Shepherd will be well cared for here to keep them comfortable for the rest of the time they give me when they need the care if called for. I feel like my crisis this morning, desperately needing the cat food, led me to a beautiful resource to help me love my pet family members.

So far this place has been great. The staff is nice. The vet care is nice. Office is clean and organized. They were great with both my dogs. And willing to work with my 60 pound anxiety dog. So far so good!
