How to Save Money at Lannon's Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Excellent service, and a kind compassionate staff. As a first time pet owner, they answered all my questions, gave me a folder full of literature about my Yorkie Poo and helped me feel like I could be a successful pet owner.

I had just gotten a new puppy and I didn’t have my house as puppy proofed as I needed to have and my puppy ate some mouse poison, we rushed to the closest vet to us which happened to be Lannon’s, we ran inside for help and they wouldn’t help us, they said that they weren’t seeing any animals that weren’t already patients, they wouldn’t help us at all! Our puppy was dying and we were crying, and they did nothing. Thankfully he often got car sick so we drove super crazy and he puked. I will never go there again and I tell everyone that asks about vets in the area.

I have been bringing my animals to Lannon’s for about 4 years now. I have always somewhat liked Lannon’s they have squeezed me in the past and have taken care of my pets. Until recently every visit I’ve noticed how incredibly understaffed they are and even the little appointments like a heart worm test is taking well over a hour. Checking in and out takes over 20 minutes waiting in line. On July 1st I noticed my dog had what looked like a cherry eye going on. I called that afternoon around 3ish tried about seven times (the line is always busy) finally was able to get through and placed on hold for 15 minutes. I hung up then tried 46 times before I was able to get a none busy line. Yes that was extremely frustrating and I did tell the girl on the phone I was actually considering switching vets and they should hire more people or lighten their work load. I didn’t yell or cuss at her, but was very straight forward with my message. They told me to send a email of my dogs eye, well I never heard back from them (good thing it went away on it’s own) instead two weeks later in the mail I get this letter. So that is totally fine I will take my business elsewhere. I wouldn’t recommend bringing any pets here because they are so understaffed and there is no guarantee your pets will receive the best care.

You can never get ahold of anyone. I know they say their voicemail says they won't answer if they're assisting customers.. I've stood in the office as the phone rings NONE STOP like someone is calling back to back to back while 1 is on the computer and one is helping me ( I was in there for 10-15 min) no one answered that phone and before you ask no it was not busy. I have needed them to answer asap because I was running late but NO ONE will answer doesn't matter is you call 1 time or 10000 times. I've left 3 different voicemails for different things on different days and no call was ever returned (yes I left my name, the pets name, my number, and the reason for calling). The only way for me to get anything done here is for me to psycho dial a few times every few days and I MIGHT get lucky. They have been a BIG help in the past when there was another doctor but now that there is only 1 it's like everyone doesn't care as much and no one is motivated to do much anymore ( minus the 1 doctor they're doing their best) I had lannons as my primary vet but I've had to switch. I was fine with the waiting for appointments (unless urgent) but you can't even get someone to answer to make an appointment The only good thing about this place is they have an AMAZING doctor I have no complaint towards them they're great I've never had an issue with their service and my pets are healthy thanks to them the doctor is honestly the only reason for the 2 stars if the doctor wasn't good I would've left 0. it's the other staff that ruins the place's experience. Yes they're nice but that doesn't cut it
